This one any good click

We use a JD2 in the shop that we have converted to hydro. For bumpers we use a 2"O.Dx6.5"CLR and for tube doors etc we use 1.5"O.Dx5"CLR

The last link posted if for a pipe bender, I wouldn't recommend using them for our application.

I think that a 1.75" is a good all around size die if you are starting with one. It is strong enough for most applications and there's enough of it out there to keep cost down.

I have the plans for building a JD2 style bender if anyone is interested. I tried posting them here, but they're too big. pm me if you want them.

I have a bridgeport, so I could even help machining if you really needed it.

I bought one of these (before I knew better or was on CK5  ) and it DOES NOT WORK at all. It mostly just kinks the pipe, and if you're using heavy pipe it will end up dimpling it where the two outer pins hold it down too. Bad news for strength.

I'm hoping to get those plans from Gauder, or do this from BlindChickenRacing to save my mistake and at least get some use out of that big 16-ton hydraulic hand-pump ram that came with mine. :doah:

Is it much less expensive to build or is it better?

It is less expensive to build it, especially if you can get some metal, and maybe a big hydraulic ram (a big bottle jack would probably work as well basically).

The 2" die set for any of these types of benders is generally about $250 + shipping. If you can build the rest for free you just saved yourself $300. Even if you need to spend $100 on metal and a jack, you saved $200. I say it would be worth the try, at least to scavange the parts. Even if it didn't work you'd only be out your time, because you could just buy the bender that fits the die you bought! :D

These plans use the JD2 dies. If I had a lathe, I'd be able to make them too. Soon comes the lathe, soon. ;)

If you don't mind i'd like a set of plans as well. My e-mail is [email protected].
Thanks Gauder. I can't get PMs because I can't renew my subscription until payday on Friday. :(

I'll pass these on to 4x4High to save you the trouble Gauder. Thanks again.

:waytogo: Now if someone could resize these, we could just post them up here. I'm not that computer savy.
