I am looking for drivers that would like to participate in a Tuff Truck race out at the El Paso County Speedway (Calhan, CO) on July 22nd. Anything from a stock 4x4 to a pre-runner is welcome. Details will be posted soon to the www.elpasocountyfair.com website. ATV/UTV class and Rock Buggy class might also be possible if I can get enough of those types of vehicles.

PM me if interested in racing. I still need more trucks!

Your truck is exactly what would do good on this type of track!

I am in charge of the track layout and I can tell you that this is not the same as what you would see at a monster truck show where people take junkyard vehicles out to trash them. My track will have some jumps but they will all be either double or tabletop style so no landing nose first on the flat! There won't be any 90 degree turns so the chance of rollover is minimized. There will be some shallow mud sections, an offset rhythm section, and possibly a stack of trees/telephone poles to climb over. To be competitive, the truck would need to be 4x4 with decent suspension (although stock could do it) and decent tires. The course will be setup on a 1/4 mile dirt oval so there is plenty of room. If there are enough trucks interested, there can be side by side racing.

This would be the first event of this type for the El Paso County Speedway and if it goes well, there will be more events to come.

I am still working out the driver registration fees but it should be about $30 per truck/driver+1 pit crew member, $10 additional for pit passes. All these fees would go to the purse so the top 3 finishers in a class would get a payback. Spectators fees are still up in the air. They will be cheap if not free (this is up to the Fair board). I will see if they can charge a few bucks just to sweeten up the purse a little more.

Here is a rough drawing of what I am proposing for track layout. This is not final yet so I am still open to suggestions.

What are the circles? Are those the mud areas?

Are you the promoter for the Saturday night car races there also?

The brown circles simply show where the mud will be. The shape of it will not be a "circle", but more of a "blob". The mud will not be intended to get trucks stuck, it is more to keep the speed in check and give the driver something challenging to deal with before and after the jumps. It will only be a few inches deep but it will be slippery clay-based dirt.

Alan Davis is the promoter for the car races. I am the de-facto promoter of the tuff truck event. I am doing this on a voluntary basis since I can't find anyone who has put on one of these types of events.

The ideal vehicle would be a short wheelbase 4" lifted 4x4 with good shocks, at least 33" tires, and a little go fast stuff under the hood. Roll bars/cages will be required for soft top vehicles and anything in the modified class.

I will post the full rules to the website as soon as they are approved by the Fair board.

Update: The insurance has been approved so this event is a go! The final track layout will be decided Monday night. I am getting help from Lil Foot Motorsports and Psychoneurosis racing on this. The entry/pit fees will have to bump up a little ($40/$20) but his is to help make the purse a little more interesting and will cover some other expenses. Spectators are FREE with fair admission so at least come and watch. I will have more details at www.xscorr.com and www.elpasocountyfair.com

I just read through the rules. I do not qualify for any off the classes. Too modified for the modified class. $9000 in shocks alone. (I did not pay that for them)

No fuel cell for the for the open class.

I have had other people complain about the modified class and wanted no shock restrictions. I may remove this restriction. I just don't want a Robby Gordon truck in that class racing against a slightly built local truck. Since you are running a stock motor, I think I can put you in modified.

Would you object to having numbers painted on the truck?

Don't get used to being in the stock class... :)

Your truck is setup perfect for this, I hope you come to more events. I would recommend putting some external cage stuff on just in case...

They do not make enough metal for me to run in the modified class. I should have run in the open class. Will next time.

Cool. That thing definitely handles the whoops.

Does it have swaybars on it or does it just lean that much even with them?

Hahahaha, I'll take your word for it. Big Ugly has no sway bar but it's a 1 ton so not much for leaning.
I just always have heard from the prerunner crowd to run a bar if you have long travel and especially coil overs. Then again I'm just an observer, not a participant.
