tug of war stagities

this is dirt but it has been compacted. so far the aproch I listed above has worked but I have more power and traction then either of those guys. Stick with it or put the hamer down. /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

I am running a 500 hp 454, SM 465, doubler, locked ff 14b and locked 35 spline D60 all hooking up on 39.5 boggers.

[/ QUOTE ]You will be hard to beat then. That 465 won't do much for you though, it will be hard on the clutch.

[/ QUOTE ]I prefer a stick for pull backs. Most people with a auto tranny just floor it thinking they'll over power ya. I prefer the stick, slow and steady. Just leave it in granny low.

[/ QUOTE ]
Same as just dumping the clutch and flooring it...thats called inexperience. Riding the clutch could be done to get the same effect as an auto but like I said, that would be hard on the clutch. Not to mention with an auto you aren't stuck in 1 gear.

If the dirt isint real hard, thos boggers will dig like crazy under the 454. Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Dirt would be a totally different strategy than I am used to. I am not saying it wouldn't work but I have never seen it work (I would like to). Probably a whole lot less breakage on dirt. Here where we pull on a concrete slab there is a lot of drivetrain carnage and thus a lot of pullers have gone to 2-1/2 ton axles etc to try to prevent breakage. I apologize for being ignorant and thinking everybody pulled tug of war on concrete.

I would say that throttle and wheel spin are your only chance of winning with a Blazer on Boggers. That short wheelbase is really going to screw you over, and with leaf springs you're going to hop like crazy.

With tires that wide in dry dirt, digging as hard and fast as you can is your only chance.

i have a single rear link that has all but stoped what was once very violent wheel hop. So with any luck hop should not be a problem. Of course I have never put this kind of presure on it befor.

On pavement, yes. In dirt, no. As long as those boggers are clawing, you're not going to move backwards.

I sure hope so. By the way there are 2 classes of 4X4s and over 2500$ pay out to the winners. If any one whants to play some slots are still open.

Thats just up my alley but yer' in Utah. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

[/ QUOTE ]I've never tried it on pavement. Too much breakage for me. We alwas did our pull backs on gravel, and no one had Boggers. We all just had A/T's or M/T's. No swampers, hawg's or anything like that, just plain El Cheapo tires..

Gravel offers zero traction by spinning tires. In dirt, unless it's HARD packed, spinning tires is a good way to gain traction.

In gravel, I agree, all you'd do was slide around.

[/ QUOTE ] hmmm, lets increase wheel speed, and decrease torque. the idea is to pull the truck, not cover it in dirt. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

You obviously don't have much experience pulling.... You need to be able to have some decent wheel spd on hand if the other person looses traction so you drag them fast enough that there is no chance of them gaining traction once again. I've never pulled in the dirt so I've never covered anyone in dirt, just tire smoke. Asphalt or nothin'!

With 4.10 gears and Boggers, I don't care what you got for a motor, the instant your engine drops RPM almost 50% that it takes to get from 1st to 2nd gear in a 700, it's going to bog.

Have a digital video camera!?!?! I'd love to see this on video after all this talk!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
