Ok so it now close to summer heat here in MA and I was wondering what should I run for oil. Synt or regular? Is 50 weight to much?

What should I run for plug wires and plugs?

I want optimum performance from my SB 350 till I get a My 383 built:D

Let me know everything I can do it make this tune up the best on my SB gets

I run Mobile 1 SYN in all my motors. There are widely varying opinions on the subject of oil though.
If you are getting a 383 built then just run any quality oil in your 350.

For the plugs and wires I always go with eiter OEM or a set that cuts down on RFI emissions. I don't have a race motor so why put the biggest coolest wires on it??? Wast of money in my opinion.

I've had good results with AC plugs & wires, and I've also had good results with those autolite platinum plugs..

As far as oil, there are some factors out there than can influence what type of oil you buy..even the popular synthetics out there are being blended with mineral basestocks and solvents to cut costs, and thanks to a court case involving castrol, any oil blend can legally be called synthetic. furthermore, PAO / ester blends have their own drawbacks, and those high mileage oils just swell your seals until they eventually burst & leak..

further complicating the issue, beginning in january of 07, all oils have to be formulated with reduced levels of phosphorus, zinc, and sulfur for emissions purposes. ( diesel oil too )..these ingredients formed your anti - wear & anti scuff protection, so removing these doesn't exactly help you.

so what to do?

if you buy the buck two ninety nine wally world oil, throw it away after two thousand miles..if you really want mobil one or amsoil, or something similar, invest in oil analysis so you can see if longer drain intervals are justified. Just because the bottle says "5,000 mile protection", that doesn't mean your engine provides the climate in which that can happen.

If you have an interest in learning about an oil with none of the above - mentioned drawbacks, ( and a heck of a lot more performance ) PM me.. we can blend you some stuff that will protect the engine without resorting to using a viscosity similar to molasses.
