Tuning The 350 FAQs (basic tuning for dummies)

Q-Jets are great for actually wheelin' , they run on their side , poor mans injrction , or what I like to call "fool injection" .

I wouldn't trade my Q-jet for anything short of a multi-port system with free installation :thumb:

BTW , did you even go to bed at all last night :wink1:

Yeah, but we do have a 6 month old screamer,, so sleep is minimal.

So your opting getting a q jet and dumping the brock also????????

Stay away from the re builts?

Just pick a good rebuilder . There are no more new castings , unless you buy an Edelbrock Q-jet , which is priced the same as doing a cheap junkyard injection anyway .

Do NOT listen to all the wives tails , and grumpy ol men stories , and backyard mechanic stories .

The Q-Jet works , is easy to tune if you can understand english and read , and have patience ( which is needed to own a Blazer anyway :wink1: ) :thumb:

Clarification for Jacob and others confused :

Edelbrock sell more than one style of carb . They sell a copy of the Carter AFB , with stepped rods instead of tapered . And they sell a new casting of the Rochester/Weber Quadrajet thats priced more than I spent for my wifes engagement ring :thumb:

So Jake , your Edelbrock is NOT a Q-jet , but you CAN overspend and buy one from them !!

Spend the bucks and take it to a shop with a diagnostic (Sun) machine and a tailpipe sniffer. That will pinpoint any deficiencies, such as weak ignition, low compression, or a carb out of whack.

What Mike said. Take it in and have it tuned before I smack your pee-pee with a willow reed.

Pick up phone.
Make appointment.
One week from now you'll be dancing like a girl with her new training bra.

Kind of like what your doing right now? :dunno:

j/k:haha:

Ever tried pee-pee smacking while wearing a training bra?

It'll open your sinuses right up.

i'm not so sure pee-pee slapping is allowed outside the confines of the lounge.

take that stupid Edelcrock off of there. as for methods to destroy it... AFTER YOU HAVE TAKEN IT OFF! heh, its already full of gasoline... that'll f#^& some $hyt up. :D:D:D

I have an Edelbrock quadrajet, one of the brand new units. I really like it, runs excellent.

I'm dumping my 'brock as soon as I can find a decnt priced q-jet rebuilt and tuned for my motor.

My 76 has an Edelbrock Q-jet and it runs great. I will see what model you have on the rig I sold you. I think I downloaded the manual in .pdf at some point. You will get answers all over the board on the Edelbrock. Some love them, some hate them. Some swear by injection, others want the ability to fix on the fly. Given the fact that you didn't just win the lotto, if it runs fine, then stick with it for a while in my opinion. Take it to a reputable shop, or a proficient friend, as stated by others and have it looked at. The distributor is an MSD HEI unit as rjfguitar said. You also have to remember that with such an open exhaust as it has now with the rusted out Flowmasters dumping out right after the muffler, the sound isn't going to be the same as a good tuned exhaust that runs all the way out. Some of that popping I believe isn't necessarily a timing issue. I'd start with the more pressing projects first such as the tranny/TC selection, the exhaust, and then the ring/pinion/locker possibilities. The carb should last you for a while until some of the other things are up to snuff. Just my .02.....
