Is the only difference between 2x4 and 4x4 TH350 the tail cone? And will any Th350 work on my blazer if I change out my tail cone to the replacement tranny? Im new to the 4x4 chevy world so thanks for your patients and help.

The output shaft is also shorter on the 4x4 version. The 4x4 version has no tail housing at all, the t-case adapter bolts right up to where the housing normally would

If you remove the tail housing on a 2wd version you will notice a lot of blank shaft, that is your extra length that won't work

You can't just swap housings because of this, and if you want to swap the output you have to pull the innards from the trans to swap them

It would be best to just sell/trade your trans for something you need and get a 4x4 th350 with the appropriate t-case still attached to it to make life easiest for you

Thanks for the quick reply... Thats what I half way expected to hear. I just got a 77 Jimmy and it dosnt seem to have a park in it. I will play around with it a bit and see if its something stupid before I replace the tranny. Thanks again for the help. :thumb:

If you're looking for a used TH350, make sure it has the Chevy bolt pattern on the bellhousing. There's a few TH350's out there that have the Buick, Olds, Pontiac bolt pattern and they're different from the Chevy's.

also check the linkage for propor adjustment. worn body mounts or linkage can cause no park or bad shift points.

and please block the wheels before going under the rig.

Heed sweetk30's words on the linkage adjustment and body mounts, and keep the transmission mount in mind too. A soft transmission mount had my shift lever moving all over and made it hard to get into park when I was off camber. A new trans mount plus some adjustment and tightening of the linkage fixed mine. I still need body mounts, and the shifter moves a lot when off road going over obstacles regardless of efforts to find a problem elsewhere.

Even if the parking pawl/ratchet was fubared ,it can be replaced with the trans in the truck..if the tailshaft "dogs" got damaged the output shaft will need to be replaced, that means yanking the tranny out and completely gutting it..

I have seen a few trucks around here that the owners used a 2wd or car TH350 with a 6" tail, with an aluminum spacer between the transfer case and tranny case,to replace a 700R4 tranny--that allows the TH350 to bolt up and end up the same overall length..
I've seen one truck used on a farm a guy got for free with a junk TH350 ,he had an Impala with a short tail TH350 ,when he discovered it wouldn't work in his 4x4 due to the longer tailshaft,he made his own "adapter" out of two flat steel plates welded to a peice of pipe to join the TH350 tothe transfer case, and had to move the crossmember back some and redrill the frame, lengthen the shifter rods and shorten the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front one..was a fair amount of work, but now he can use a 2wd or car TH350 which is a lot more plentiful and cheaper..why GM had to make a specific "4x4 only" TH350 I dont know,I think if they used the same trannies in all their vehicles it would have been a lot easier!-- and cheaper for them as well..

I made my own cable shift linkage using the workings out of an early corvette. I will disconnect it and see if I can get it in park without the Linkage, that should tell me if its the tranny or not. Thanks for all the help here.:thumb:
