Turbo 400 disassembly

Inspect closely….I have no confidence in TCI stuff…..this is one of their convertors.

I am going to get a B&M converter
20400 I think is the part number

And Tci used to be great and they have went the way of monster transmission

You could tear up an anvil son....

Good luck with the T400.. you'll do good..
They aren't a hard Trans to rebuild, just make sure everything is clean!! The book you have is a good one, if you have questions stop and ask.

Oh, and don't forget to remove the center support bolt...it's under the valve body and it takes a 12 point socket, iirc...

You got this !!

yep been watching vids for a month
this way if it breaks it is my fault that i didn't do some thing right and not get screwed out nof 1600 bucks

It would be worth the $ to have a Trans shop clean the case and replace all of the bushings in the case and drums, stator tube etc..

Its cheap insurance.. it's just like rebuilding an engine...you wouldn't leave the old main, rod and cam bearings in a fresh engine rebuild right ??

i have the drivers so i will change them and no shop around here will touch it any more
will have to use acetone and brake clean for the case

on the stand going to get carb cleaner in the morning and some acetone then start tear down

With a stall speed of 1800 to 2200 rpm, is your cruising rpm at or higher than that?

You should rollorize the output shaft. Sonnax has a kit for that. It is not that expensive, and easy to do, and also get a set of plastic check balls for the valve body from sonnax. The steel balls are known for gauling the valve body ports they ride in.

was going to add this if its not already there

You are right...TCI may have already rollorized your trans when it was new, but you will still have to get a new output bushing and roller bearing.
