Turbo 400 disassembly

Is that even 4x4 case I can't tell in pics. What is the inspection cover made out of ?
 
I doubt it , I put advanced adapter kit into np 205 and wanted that trans to work but when I put into gear after getting drive shaft shortened it engaged then didn’t
 
The TH400 for the pre 80 205s was the same output shaft length as a 2wd TH400, a lot of people just used 2wd 400s….not a great idea imo but it seems to happen a lot

Good point. The last TH400 in my old K10 was from a mid 80's Astro van, it had the correct tailshaft for my figure 8 adapter 205 and it was an undrilled HD case.

Yeah, I've actually got 2. One is a good, used take out that would fit my Doubler (short 203 tailshaft) and the other is the trans from my old K10. The one from the K10 is dead but I've kept it because it's got some cool parts in it but I suspect that the case is hurt - it died while wheeling and when I removed it I found the tailshaft was locked up.

John, to be fair to the JW TH400 in your truck it did not just die while wheeling - you had a NASTY roller BBC-468 in front of it and that thing earned its living in that truck ! Shortly before it ( the TH400 ) expired we pulled up to JONES's SWAMP to find your wife, at full throttle, pulling another huge truck out in reverse and bouncing all four tires off the ground like a bucking bronco and not letting off until EVERYONE was waving her off of the gas pedal and than we found out that she had pulled out four trucks in a row out of the swamp all the same way ! That was the most abuse that I have seen that truck go through and it was made to take out and push the limits - I think you aren't giving the ole TH400 a fair shake. You spent a ton a cash on building that particular one but it did put up with a mess load of abuse on the street and off road - it was impressive !
Just giving props to the TH400's as one of the greats and giving John a little bit of crap while I'm at it...

The downsides of A) having strong trucks since shortly after we started dating and B) telling her that if she broke it, it needed to be upgraded anyway. :doah:

@Kain Any upgrades while you're in there?

I always hated the short straw for a vent tube, maybe find a good mod / update to something better. Cooler fittings too.
 
the jegs rebuild kit just went on not available list and only tci kit in stock
I HATE THAT
