Turbo400 Transmission No 2nd And 3rd Gear But Fliud Is Pink?

1983 C20 Turbo400 an Hour ago today started going in 1st gear but no 2nd and 3rd but do has reverse.

Engine is hot and transmission fluid is pinj
 
A stripped govenor gear or the govenor valve getting stuck or clogged up will make it not upshift out of first gear..all you'll have is reverse and first gear..

A faulty vacuum modulator will make it not upshift until its going nearly wide open in every gear,but will upshift if you get it going fast enough..if you can put it in first gear and manually shift into second gear and drive and it shifts,its likely the modulator,its either no good or there is no vacuum getting to it..

I wonder if i can replace that myself

I forgot to mention that white smoke but clear water is coming out the tailpipe so youre right, it is the vacuum
 
If a governor is a anything like a 700r4...it.will take about 2 min to get it out. The cover pops out and then the G falls out.
 
pink fluid as in REAL pink or just red or dark red .

straight pink = water got in the system and can lead to clutch material popping off the disks . = full rebuild .

red or dark red is new to normal color .

th400 is pass side rear 4 bolt cover . has a gasket under the cover . then just pops out super easy no marks need to be made to clock it on install just pop it in .

Warming up the vehicle now to check the fluid. I'll send pictures
 
That looks pretty normal. If it were pink like pepto then it would have water in it.
I went around a few times after warm up and put it in drive it went in first but no shift to 2nd and 3rd but has reverse.

I took the gear lever and shift it to 2nd and 1st and no jerk.

Also I saw a FEW bubbles after a fourth time taking out the dipstick however after putting the stick back in and taking it out while the vehicle was operating in park and hot no bubbles
 
Check vacuum to the modulator first then if it is OK and no fluid runs out of the hose pull the governor cover and check the gear. If that is ok, be sure there isn't constant voltage at the kickdown plug on the drivers side ( stuck switch) , if that is OK pull the pan and make sure the kickdown solenoid has not broken at the spot welds that hold it together.
