85 c10 the lever is floppy and doesn’t really work, is this essentially the same setup as wipers on the dash? I would like to possibly replace the turn signal switch and the lever, but never been in one of these columns. Are they any different?

Pic for reference.

not much different to change switch. lock plate to deal with and wire fishing. Take the middle lower dash panel out, there should be a long narrow cover over the wires slips into some tabs on the column remove that, to easier pull old/new wires.
You can slip the connector plug through the slot on the column bowl, or you can depin the connector and tape up the terminals to slip through. Sometimes it much easier this way, cut the old switch of the loom, depin new connector tape to old wires, pull old wires from bottom. Be to snap a pic of connector or keep old wires handy to re install pins.
turn signal stalk just pulls out.

Seems just as simple as my 82 then, now to track down the parts.

I wouldn't call it as simple as the '82, but not a big deal.
There is a small bolt on lever that extends from the switch to the slot on the lever.
I would pull the steering wheel and lock plate before ordering anything, just to confirm that the switch half is cracked. Just in case you need more than that.
I also have pulled the sideways, or outer centering springs off of the switch to lighten the force required to operate it. This still leaves the springs which hold the two halfs of the switch together, making the terminals connect inside the slider part of the switch.

It seems like it's worn out, it doesn't always make the electrical contacts. You are right though, I just don't want to put it back together then take it back apart to move it.

FWIW later stuff (probably S10's, Astros, and the like) GM got smart and put a connector up at the turn signal stalk. Yes, you'll still have to fish the "new" wires through the column, but it will be the last time you ever need to.

Edit: G-vans '92-94 seem to be the ones that would be most easily found. Astro in 1993, some of the FWD garbage cars GM was making from '88-94, Cutlass, Bonneville, etc. Very random applications.
