I know theirs gotta be a thread somewhere, anybody know of a good one?? I tried searching for one for a bit but I cant seem to find one:dunno:

i would really like lots o pictures for help.

I bought a new cable and it arrived from summit, so I gotta figure out how to replace it first then how to adjust it correctly. Never done one before.

Thanks:thumb:

I dont know about the replacement part, but the cable needs to be fully exended at the exact same spot as wide open throttle. If you release it at the bracket then have a buddy hold the gas pedal all the way down, you can pull the TV cables outer jacket back till it wont go any farther and lock it back down. hope that helps and I'm sure somebody will chime in if I'm full of :poo: :D But thats how I was told to do it:thumb:

Thanks buddy, ive been lookin around and found lots of steps, i just wish I could find a good video, i learn much better seeing things rather than reading how to do it.

Replacement is a bit of a pain! There is a small hook at the trans end of the cable, you have to fish this hook up and connect it to the new cable, then carefully lower the entire assembly back into the trans, without dropping the hook. It isn't a true hook more 'L' shaped, than hook shaped.

Once you get the hook into the cable, carefully lower the plastic shroud over the end of the cable and hook, this will help prevent it from pulling out.

I found it very helpful to have a buddy that could pull the end of the cable at the TBI or carb to keep tension on it, while I lowered it into place and started bolting it down.

Now adjustment is easy by simply connecting the cable to the TBI/carb, then pressing the metal tab and pulling the cable sheath towards the firewall. Once it is fully out, have a buddy press the pedal fully down, this should pull the cable sheath in a bit, and you should have a perfect cable adjustment.

Heres a little of my confusion, why does mine not look the same as the others, and I didnt hear anything about that brass compression nut that locks the inner sheath from moving...

Whats the silver metal piece for first of all, then whats the little paper cutout things for, and then do I need to use the hook dodad they sent me or is that just a replacement for the one thats already in the tranny and I could use the exhisting one..??

And this is what everyone elses seems to look like...

Ok i figured this out, pull up on the plastic tab and the piece moves forward and back on the threads, then push it down and it locks i guess. Everything else talks of a spring loaded adjuster, this definately has no springs lol.

Whats really odd is the directions TCI sent with it have pics of the other one not this one, so thats confusing too lol.

It's just that yours is an aftermarket cable, so the adjuster is a different design than the original. The adjustment procedure should be the same, other than how you slide the adjuster initially. Actually, that cable seems pretty nice because the adjuster is so long and the cable is cut-to-fit. So the exact location of the bracket is not as critical (as long as you have the right geometry).

So why are you replacing the cable? There's a chance you don't need any of the extra doodads they sent, as long as you already have the throttle set up for a TV cable. The little black metal hook goes inside the transmission, but there is no reason to replace it if you already have one in there. Be careful removing the old cable so you don't drop that black hook. If you do, you may have to drop the transmission pan to reconnect.

this is an universal cable, I think get the OEM style with this D shaped clamp on it. Install this cable to your trans and click it in your carb bracket and to your throttle linkage, pull the slider full in and then go inside your truck and pull the pedal downfloor to WOT. You hear a ratching, wich makes the slider in position you need.

Well I got this one in, now im stumped. The other style is supposed to "click" after you slide it back lock it and push the throttle to WOT. This one no clicky....:dunno:, its just threaded, how do I know how far back to move it?? Just drive it and adjust?? That seems a little sketchy to me... This is a stupid idea compared to the other one, the other design seems so much simpler. And whats really makin me mad is that the directions they sent me are for the other syle that self adjusts with the D shaped locking spring thing.

I want this truck out of the shop... NOW!!!! lol

(yes I know the accelorator pump linkage is off, I didnt want it squirting gas in the carb while I was messin with it)

toss that thing and get an OE style. hell, even autozone sells them

I couldnt find one anywhere around here :dunno:, thats why I went online, I really dont feel like changing it again if I dont have to, and heck that was $30 plus $10 more in shipping, im kinda broke.... Got car insurance due, phone bill due, and i worked 3 days last week, and um 1 this week:doah:

That cable is fine.

You need to put a Q jet on, or get the right bracket that attaches to the throttle lever on the carb for the TV cable.

Take the silver slotted thing off thats for older stuff, and use the black plastic clip.

Whats wrong with my carb and bracket setup?? It all worked before, just my old tv cable was on its last limb because the cable got all frayed. I mean I would rather have a qjet but not an option right now as I just went to the bank and I got a whole $83.... yay:doah:

Its been a while since I looked into it, but I could swear there was something with the geometry of how the cable is pulled by the throttle lever, that was wrong on the carter/edelbrock carbs.

Oh idk, i figured that whoever put the carb on got the bracket with it, but possibly not, I dont know if my bracket is the one for the stock setup or not. Never looked into it.

Well i will check that out thanks. What do you guys think i should do? i have it at max tv right now all the way towards the firewall. Should i turn it a few threads forward and just go from their and make adjustments later?
