has anyone ever heard of a twin turbo set up on an old 6.5 litre diesel? i was looking into this and want to know if anyone has tried it or something like it. i was told my best bet would be a turbo from an old cabover isuzu or something like that. any suggetions?
 
its been done, no real point as a single turbo does everything the motor could possibly handle. only reason to do it is for something different, but its alot of work.
 
There was a video on here about a guy from the Netherlands that twin turboed a 6.2 in a cucv. do a search
 
Your big problem is fuel. The single turbo setup can push more air than the fuel system can keep up with as it is. That and inefficient design of the IDI fuel system(which can work out still).

Thus when you see that twin fuel pump 6.2L tractor. Needed 2 pumps to fuel the damn thing.
 
could be a clone, but it has the military power distribution block, and the hydroboost brakes, maybe they just put in the ac setup....

All Diesels have HB brakes. Diesels do not build sufficient vacuum to use a vacuum booster and the distro block can be added a lot easier than AC.

Diesels build no vacuum due to the lack of throttle plates. :D
 
so what would be cheaper to do? i was told by a diesel guy that i can run 60psi of boost on a 6.2. but im running a 6.2 lower end and 6.5 heads so he said 60 psi is on the safe side. bull or not?
 
I'm sure I'll catch some flack for this,but I would'nt spend any money tring to squeeze any power out of a 6.2 or 6.5.I have saw more than one that would not hold up to a Banks kit.They are not perf or work engines.They are more for a commuter DD type vehicle.

huh...he was probably talking about a new duramax or cummins, anybody will have a hard enough time making one last with 10 psi, and dont even dream about 60psi...wow. Talk about hours and hours of machine work, you would basically have to make an entire engine from scratch and custom make a fuel system to fuel it all. If you could get 60 psi into a 6.2, we wouldnt be having all of these 6.2 questionaire threads, and no chevy peeps would give a crap aboot cummins.

6.2L at 60psi!!!! Dear lord no. Compression on 6.2Ls and 6.5Ls is over 20:1, no way are you slapping 60 psi into them.

Even later Cummins don't handle 60PSI, only the latest iteration of the 6BT 5.9L handles 60psi well due to a redesigned head gasket, and then they still recommend head studs be installed.
 
I remember reading about that blazer a couple of years ago. Its a CUCV from Germany a guy in holland bought from the army at an auction. Its a twin turbo built from parts scavenged from Volvo construction equipment. The builder worked for the Volvo dealer so he had access to parts;). It seems he used smaller turbos for the twin setup, well thats how I remember it anyway. Thought the build details were on www.thedieselpage.com but don't remember where.

how would one go about getting a duramax for cheap though. the ultimate set up for me would be a duramax with an np4500 speed. or a cummins with a six speed and a granny but im a poor white guy. so that makes it even more fun. any suggestions would be helpful.
