Twizted Product Release: High Clearance Engine Crossmember w/Optional Track Bar Mount

Diesel Compatibility...

Okay, good info. guys! Thanks! So I had a K5 Blazer in the shop yesterday (a CUCV model) and took some measurements off it - I modified my design ever so slightly and it looks like it will fit the Diesels with the factory oil pan without any problems!

I have an 82 3/4 ton with a big block if you want to send me one for a trial fit. I will paint it yellow and take pictures of it

Do you still have the stock GM oil pan on this motor? I am currently working with mnstrburbon on his, but he's got a larger oil pan than factory - by about an inch deeper or more by our measurements so far....

it has a stock oil pan. The truck was a diesel originally and the previous owner dropped in the 454. I can shot pictures of it if you need them. I am going to put this motor, trans, and axles in my 73 K5

Ahh, I see. Cool article, unfortunately not many pics showing the underside of the motor once installed. If you decide to go with my crossmember, I would think that the side brackets would still work - we might have to design a new center crossmember to clear the oil pan or something, but I doubt we'd need to re-build a whole new one! Definitely something to think about!

I don't have a GEN III yet :o, just thinking of future upgradability...

Good info here.

Here is a pic of my gen 3 motor showing the crossmember you think yours will fit, i am in need of upgrading my tack bar so i am looking into my options

I was doing all the other mesurments for him and if you take a pic with a straight edge under the motor mount brackets that is where he needs to see the clearance. The front cross member comes out when you install this one.

1979jimmy350, mnstrburbon is correct, post a pic of the underside of your oil pan near where the motor mounts are, and we can decide from there!! Thanks!

Any idea how this could be modified to work on a 69-72 k5 with the engine mounted 3.5" forward of stock?

Brian,
I'm not sure if this would be able to be modified or not - it may actually be easier to build a new one from scratch... I don't have any plans for the early models yet, and don't have access to one to measure off of right now. Do you know how different the framerails are from those rigs to the '73+ models?

I don't know, but I'd expect them to be different. I'm positive the motor mounts are a different style and I had to narrow the stock crossmember a bit to move it forward. I'll see if I can take some measurements and compare to the photos to see if it's even close. Thanks!

In the first post of this thread, you said tabs for the track bar will fit a small johnny joint. How far apart are the tabs? Two inches maybe?

just out of curiosity do you make something to go along w/ this for a mount on the bottom side?
