Well, after a long crunch week trying to get a bunch of customer vehicles ready for the holiday weekend, we managed to fit in our latest prototype... ...A K5 High-Clearance winch plate/cradle/builder's bumper, or whatever you want to call it :) Check it out...

And Finally, we made some mods to the design to help clear the winch motor a little better, and make it a pinch simpler to build, and also added a couple little gussets to strengthen the mounting points that tie into the anti-sway bar mounts!

...and I'll leave you all with that for the weekend... Right now, I'm off to the mountains for a much, much needed camping/wheeling vacation with some friends!

Talk to you all soon,
Darren

I like the tie in to the sway bar mounts, very nice.

Nice product whats the price.

How about a rear one made the same way that would be awsome.

I like the design with one exception, the tow point should be attached to the frame somehow. I'm thinking if they were made a little differently so that they would be moved directly over the front of the frame and then bolted to/through the front plate and to the frame and then also weld them to the plate assembly that would make the tow point as strong as possible with very little change to your design. :deal:

Sorry for a hi=jack but how do those long TRE's hold up? I thought the longer ones were supposed to be weaker

I love the bumper btw, not bulky at all

thats pretty HOT!

Now thinking out loud.........that looks like it could be expanded into an integral SAS bracket for the newer IFS trucks

I say if you do that. I'll buy one and SAS my dually. and put it on 37s or 40s.

Thats great! I just finished the 52" swap and need to make a new bumper. While deciding what to do the thought of using all that empty space for a winch came to mind.....and bingo, this thread pops up, lol.

X2. Since I like overkill I like to see the bolts in shear and tabs go through the plate and welded on the back side so that those welds are in shear as well. Given how brutal some guys are when snatching the truck during recoveries and if the tow points don’t tie directly to the frame rails it would be nice to see a some sort of stiffener across the top of the flat plate.

Anyhow, nice work Twizted, looks good :waytogo:

Also this is for the later open end frame horn what about the early style where it is cupped in and round.

Replies, Replies...

Wow, lots of feedback over the weekend! I like it! I'm glad everyone seems to like the idea and design. Now, to answer many of your questions/comments...

nvrenuf : Thanks!!

k5fd89: Will do, just give me a little bit to get it together for you!

mnstrburbon, blazin' j, romeolimagolf, Fixer, : Yes, YES! I will be working on a rear one in a similar fashion soon!! And with so many replies, I might move it up in the schedule a bit too :)

4X4HIGH, jimmy88: I agree with both of you! The D-Shackle Tabs were an after-thought, and we were going to attach them to the frame brackets, but we wanted to leave room to attach tubing to them in the future. We welded those on just for some recovery points because that Blazer went to MOAB over the long weekend. I will be thinking more on the tow point attachments as soon as I see him again :) Good catch guys!!

howdiy: Thanks for the props on the bumper, and as far as the TRE's go, they seem to hold up just fine. The longer ones will not be as strong as the shorter ones when the Tie Rod is pushed up against a rock, but you shouldn't be doing that anyways! :) They will definitely bend before the Tie Rod Tubes we build will, but as long as you pick your lines decently and don't slam your truck down on them, they work great.

DEMON44: Thanks, and Hmmmm.... One for a IFS truck? With integral SAS mounts? Okay, I'm not sure about the SAS mounts, but check this out....

Ultimate CC: Theoretically it should, but I have measured the frame widths on a number of trucks, and I have gotten differences of 2" plus!! The bolting pattern seems to match on all of them, but I'd need you to measure your outside frame width for me to make sure I get you the right width!

mnstrburbon: Not sure on the older frames, maybe we need to take some pictures and do some measurements again! :) HAHA.

Thanks to all on your feedback! I really appreciate it, it shows me what I need to do to get people what they want and how they want it! Thanks again!

Pricing on Front Winch Cradle

Okay, after looking at costs to make this thing, I will start off at a price of $250 plus shipping (bare steel) to CK5 members! (The first few - maybe 5 - will get an even better price so we can make sure everything fits properly, and that will help compensate for any little incosistencies you may end up with!)
