u joint strap alternative

Im gonna use one of those reamers for like a die grinder, put it on a high speed drill press with a movabe clamp on the bottom. Ive dove dont it before to machine a throttle body spacer, works pretty good, im just worrind about the strength because this yoke want made for ubolts. we'll see.

I mill every yoke HAD sells to work with the u-bolts. If they were drilled right on center with the stock threaded holes, the u-bolt wouldn't fit. They have to be drilled off center for that reason...Thats why you can see part of the threads.

Modifying a stock 1350 yoke to work with u-bolts would be a huge pain in the ass...Not worth the time at all. You have to take down the face of the yoke, and machine a flat surface on the back side of the yoke for the nut/washer. If your stuck on 1350 stuff, you pretty much have to run the straps. Step up to 1410, and the problems go away.

It's a worth while upgrade....If not, this could be you-

Stock 1350 style 14b yoke with straps. The straps stretched out, which lead to the retainer tits getting blown off the yoke. They had to weld the washers on in place of the tits to keep the caps in. This happened on two rigs on this last weekends trip to the Hammers. Willyswanter and another rig, Dozer. The first pic is Dozer, the second is willyswanter. Repairs were made at camp that night. I think there are some things you shouldn't try to skimp pennies on. Driveshafts, electrical, steering, brakes etc. If any of thiose things riuned my fun, I'd be pissed off. Step up to the 1410 stuff...All about piece of mind.:wink1:

But they dont make a 1310-1410 conversion joint, and Im working on getting a 241 with SYE so getting new shafts isnt logical right now

My guess is that the machine time rquired to modify them just wouldn't be worth it. 'Specially when you can just grab a ubolt style 1410 yoke for the 14b.

I'm sure there are people that have modified them...but to actually "mass produce" them, it would require buying the yoke new, then the time to modify it, then the approriate mark up for profit....Just not cost effective.

I have the 1350 yoke from NWF and it sorks out well. My stocker was wallowed out a bit so the u joint would wiggle just a little bit, which made me nervous.
