Ultra 4 in Eastern Pennsylvania!!!

this summer I'm going over it top to bottom.. well doing some now but its cold..

replacing 1978 tanks with 1987 tanks and in tank pumps.... new fuel lines, fixing steering issues, brakes, bearings, etc.... other than the norm.. truck is reliable. Drove it to work and back in the summer (130 mile round trip) and it was just fine. 60-70mph on rt 42/295 up past rt 1..... it was just the hottest day of the year!!!!
I expect to carry an extra starter, water pump, alternator, oil filter, fluids, tools, etc so should b ok. would love to make it to Rausch but another what ( just looked ) ... 124 miles.. not bad... hmmmm
 
I’m only 90 miles from Rausch Creek. Never really been to an off-road park, much less to an off-road race. With the race going on, what can one expect? I would like to meet some ck5 members in person. Which would really be the primary motivation for going. I would enjoy watching guys bust up their shit, not so mutch into busting up mine.
 
That's exactly what I did. I rode around on the bunny trails and took pics of my friends trashing their rigs on the black and red comp. courses. You'd be amazed what you can get a relatively stock vehicle through, though. You can see a very large portion of these parks w/out trashing your rig.

It's worth it to drive up to watch a competition. You'll get a feel for the park and the terrain, scout out camping, etc. Here's a couple vids I made from the first time I went to Paragon to watch NEUROC. For the record, those courses are built on about a 40-60* granite wall and it was pouring rain.

Come to dunefest in Michigan then. We have a few people that come from central/western PA.
 
IIRC, the couple that ran Paragon opened up another park in IN (?). They did want to reopen. Their closure was all a big land grab conspiracy to open a regional cargo airport. All the principles have been arrested and prosecuted for various corruption charges associated w/ the Paragon deal as well as others. This includes some st. legislators, prosecutors and even the judge that intervened in the Paragon case on the side of the land owner and developer.

Great background music! That looked like some pretty slippery stuff.
So you can drive to different areas, maybe pull out a bag chair and watch? That sounds like a good time. I’ll check out their site, I assume they have some maps.

Michigan would be an 8 hour trip. Would have to be planned mini vacation. I’m gonna try to get to some of these places over the next few years.

I'm not sure how Anthracite is doing it. Paragon and Rausch Creek had a main parking area and you had to walk to the comp courses. Paragon's courses were all in one area built into that rock slab you saw in my vids. The crowd stood at the bottom and watched the buggies going up/ down the different courses. Very easy for a spectator.

First time I went to Rausch, they had a few comp courses set up off one of the main trails. They were fairly close to the parking area and you could walk to them and stand around the sides of the courses to watch. The courses weren't hard to get to but it could take a little climbing,depending on where you had to go to see the action. They have since built purpose-built competition courses on a plateau right next to the main parking area, complete w/ venders and food trucks. IIRC, they have events (ie: hammer qualifiers) that can combine trail running w/ both man-made comp courses and natural rock courses. What they use will all depend on the event and gov. body.
