I had this lil LED lightbar from my "camper" project from a couple years ago. wasnt sure what I was going to do with it, so.............

Part brain storming and part boredom, I decided to mount it under the hood. I figured this is making use of something I already have and it would be a good idea to have some light under there incase I need to do repairs at nite, this would give a good general "over all" light of the engine bay and can use a flashlight for anything more specific.

Obviously, ill get a night shot once the sun goes down. lol. We'll see how it holds up to the heat and grease/oil/dirt.

Stay tuned................................................:woot:

Nice. :thumb:

I'm about to do underhood lighting on my C/10... :deal:
Mine will be more for show, but still has its function. :D

I did led spots, for my rocker/courtesy lights.
They're bright as SH*T!! :pimp:

My brother works with a guy who builds magnetic l.e.d. light strips and sells them on the internet. He did this underhood and in the trunk. Various lengths, very bright. He ran a 24 or so inch strip down each side of the hood, one down at the rear and one along the front edge of the hood. It's like daylight when he opens that thing.

I was gonna buy several 18" strips and run them down the sides of my trailer as running lights and a few out back for taillights, much brighter than what I have in there now.

superbrightleds and oznium are who I use..

I run those spots mike showed, the marine ones... and yeah, bright... I just bought some flexible amber and green 36"ones from superbright for the engraved plexi project..

I used to love doing a pair of gravity, single 1156 ones back in the day.. simple and highly effective, pre LED.... ran them in everything, showcars, hotrods, trucks..

I find the retractor GM's kinda neat.. tho I've yet to use the one in Mutt... :haha:

I had one of those GM retractor types, I guess if you replace the bulb with LED it would work but was pretty big contraption.

yeah, the whole cord thing is asking for not being durable, etc... I just thought it neat someone would spend time on something that a DIY mechanic could use...

actually from 20 yr's old to about 30, one of my fave tools ever was probably my 3" fluro tube light that had alligator clips and 20' to run off a 12v battery in my Power Wagon.... invaluable... :bow:

Way back in the good old days, before we found out how "bad" things were, I went to the dealer and bought several of the underhood mercury switch sockets.
Put them under the lids of my tool box with 1195 bulbs instead of 1156s.

Much brighter than 1156s. About 50cp vs 30cp. Made finding my tools and parts at night easier than in the daytime.

They still seem to make tilt sockets, but they use a rolling ball instead of mercury, and probably don't last as long.

Im pretty impressed with this lil light. Lit up better than I thought.

Before;;

Few seconds later;;

Looks good. Hard to say from the pics, but would it do a little better if mounted closer to the front of the hood?

Or does it reach all the way to the rad.?

It was mounted org. a lil further forward but it actually came close to radiator hose and fan shroud, so I moved it back.

When I close hood, the light fits nicely between air cleaner and hoses so nothing in the way of it, etc

See, now you're just showing off. Did you really want to show off your lighting or what it's illuminating? I'm kidding, both setups look good and now I have yet another project to add to the never-ending list.
