Just when I got the truck going good, I just had to go buy a Cummins 6bt.
So, I am committed now - been wanting to do this ever since getting rid of my Dodge trucks. It's a decent motor - built in 12/92, so it has the VE but has the newer style vacuum pump. Motor was last ran about 1 year ago and has around 200K miles. Oil on the dipstick is nice and dark - no signs of water. Previous owner said he took care of it and I believe it (famous last words, ha!).
Planning on this being a "long" winter project, as the truck isn't my daily driver and its just used to tow (travel trailer, hauling trailers), so I can take some time doing it and as well as get the parts needed. Which brings me to this ...
I know there is the standard parts list (like mounts, brackets, etc) that are common amongst the conversions I have seen, so not overly concerned with that. But I am still deciding to just ditch the ECM and VSS all together and just do a new fuse-block and wiring, along with the stand-alone computer for the 4l80-e. Mainly because the original gm fuse block is basically toast and had to re-host a number of circuits. I am thinking I can get away with that, since stuff like the A/C isn't computer controlled. I guess if I go that route, I may just do a new gauge cluster ... oh geesus, the list goes on ...
Heres to breaking my back
