bought the 38s today, and even with some fender trimming (gonna get to it tomorrow!), i think i need to go with at least 1 inch more....

whats my best option?

im thinking the 1 inch ord body lift, but im unsure of the installation. is there anything to really have to modify? also whats the best way to separate the body from the frame to slip the pucks in?

sounds like a plan also you could look into zero rates that would allow you to gain an inch and even move the axle forward a bit more for firewall clearance.
also with body lifts you have to mod your fan shroud, transmission linkage, and maybe the air breather tubes for the axles and gas filler neck. this being said the 1" body lift is still a good idea as if modding is required it is minimal unlike the bigger body lifts.

so you are thinking 1' zero rates front and rear?

I read the title of the thread and i thought it'd be a pic of some guy with a 1 foot body lift :haha:

As for installing a body lift it's fairly easy. Just take out all the bolts and with a floor jack and maybe some blocks simply raise the cab/bed/front clip enough to slip the blocks in. A 1" is a good choice and if i ever buy another one it won't be more than a 2". I had lots of issues with the 3" ones

I thought it was going to be a 1 foot body lift as well. That would be similar to the stacking frames concept if I am correct.

Body lifts in the North East may be a little more involved because of the rust factor. I think some people end up boring a hole in the cab to get at the other end of the mounts to spray some PB Blaster and put a wrench on that end. I have been thinking about doing the 1" body lift thing but it seems like it could be alot of work for that little of a lift. Trimming might be easier and have a better overall effect.

well the sawzall is going to get a workout tomorrow morning. i guess i will see what it looks like afterwards. it seems some people on the board have gotten away with 38's or 39's with only 4 inches of lift and trimming. lets see what turns up for me....

as far as the title....a 1 foot body lift is something i expect to see on ebay...:)

How about lifting the frame 1" , letting the sup drop 1" and see if 0 rates will work .

Finally cut the fenders...pics inside

This was after the front cuts, and before i painted the rims black. im glad i got the 38's! but i decided to get the zero rates for the rear.

Trim it like you mean it man...if your trim job was a tattoo it'd be a delicate little flower on your wife's ankle.

~4" of lift means without the diff moved forward you're gonna have the 38's hitting the firewall/floor area under compression. Trim it to suit that.

I ran 40's with 4-5" of lift and wheeled it. My diff was moved 1 1/4" forward and I trimmed it a lot.

Here it is with 6-7" of lift, same tires, same trim job.

that was a good one. but what is the solution for the fender wells? is there a way to retain them and still get enough of a cut towards the firewall? any tricks?

Unbolt the bottom portion of the inner fender and you can push it back to the firewall gaining you about three inches if not more. I removed the bottom 10" of inner fender altogether...this kept the portion that keeps mud and water out of the engine bay, but got rid of the part the tires would hit (potentially)

Snapped a couple of pic's...

This one shows my 'limit' for fender trim. There is a structural anchor point at the bottom of the fender that I leave. There isn't much gain cutting farther back than that anyways. You can see the square mount nut in behind the 3" x 3" tube there. Should be a good reference point for when you go compare with your truck.

This is my inner fender cut. Again I keep the large mount point (bottom left you'll see the inner fender mount bolt/washer area) and the rest I trimmed to suit while keeping the splash guard functional. You can also see the body seam hammered over to keep it from cutting my tires.
