Update! - Treasure Beetle Progress for September...

Ok, I've been asked this time after time, and have no answer (Cus I was to dimwitted to ask earlier at your place /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif)

Did ya weld the spiders in the transaxle or what??? /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

And yes, you are /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif. But we luv ya anyway /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

You think he's crazy, I think he's a genious. He's taken what I would call, "Garbage" and turned it into a very respectable, low dollar, HARDCORE four wheeling machine. That's no small feat.

Are you going to screen or plexi the front? I think it you did a forward tip you may get a face full of all hell

[/ QUOTE ]

he he...

I agree that some protection up front will be necessary. Right now thinking of an "expanded metal" floor so I can see thru it... but you bring up a good point for a windshield of some sort.

The other case that gives me the shivers w/ this setup is when I'm lining up on a large waterfall - and flip over backwards. Since I'll be sitting in the "nose" of it - that's gonna be a wild ride! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif That's the main reason for the "beetle shell" look of the cage..... maybe that backwards flip will be more of a "smooth roll"../forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

let me know when i can test it in the big sand box for ya bro!!

looks good.

someone send me jack daniels please... on a side note...

i think you should skin it with VW panels, another low buck deal /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

[/ QUOTE ] a backflip would be my main concern with a front seater but reallyy the issue there is how big a set do you have /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

to make the the d-shafts longer you could make the 208's ? SYE ..

Andy,

This option will be kept for now as a "hole card".... If I can make it work w/ a slip yoke, I'd rather do it that way... so that swapping out a transfer case will be easier. What I mean by that is if I'm on a 4 day wheelin' trip and I blow up case #2, I could find one around the closest town... or even carry a spare!

But if I have to modify for a fixed yoke, then I'm using "non-standard" parts.... .

Still the physical limitations of a 2' driveshaft may force me to go "fixed".... /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Marv

What about doing a booty fab slipyoke eliminator. Drill a hole threw the driveshafts slipyoke and tailshaft. Bolt it in place and use a standard style slip shaft? Kind of booty but it might work and make life easier and cheaper. Then if you bust a case you could have a spare that is pre-drilled sitting at the Tahoe. I wouldn't do a mod like that on a street truck but this won't see the street or speeds above 15-20mph. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Harley

I think harley is on to something with that. Machine a new tail housing that is shorter but designed for a stock seal, cut the tailshaft down, drill/tap it down the center, bolt a shortended slip yoke on and wa-la tailshaft eliminator. You won't have a spedo gear but that is not really a concern with a 210 to 1 crawl ratio. It wouldn't be very hard to make a second one as a spare (complet or in a swapable kit type form). This also eliminates the multi dimensional force on the splines typically associated with slip yokes (also known as the "harley hop"). you will still be using modified junkyard jewels (more like fools gold) for the parts except the adapters, and tail housing. I know a good engineer at honeywell that likes this kinda out of the box stuff if you need a connection for the tailshaft. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
