are they homemade and how exactly do they mount to?

They are not homemade. I tried to find installed pictures, but I lost alot of my old pictures in a hard drive failure.
You drill 3 holes in the back side of your front spring hanger, and mount the square bracket to it. The stud end of the bar goes into the bushing in that bracket. The other bracket bolts to the top of your spring plate using 2 of your existing axle u-bolts (the spacing of the holes for the ubolts would require a 1/2 ton axle) The other end of the bar bolts to one of the 3 holes of that bracket. You could fabricate a new rear bracket with holes that would line up with 1-ton u-bolts. They were on my truck when I had factory 52's in the rear with a 3" block, and seemed to work well.

I found them... they sell for $160. http://www.jcwhitney.com/TUFF-COUNT...0220_N_111+1985+200729944+600003505_10101.jcw
