I have a 1986 K5 Blazer with a very tired 305 (carbureted) engine. I'd like to swap it out to a fuel injected 350. I've priced some aftermarket kits from Edelbrock, Holley, etc, but who has that kinda money laying around? I'd like to find a gently used 350 e.f.i. from a salvage yard and run with it, but I don't know diddly about wiring up an e.f.i. engine to a non e.f.i. truck. Does anyone have experience doing this or any suggestions?

Find a 1987-1991 donor (1987-1989 being easier since the speedometers are cable driven, like yours) and take everything off and install on yours.

It's really not THAT complex if you have a donor that supplies everything, as the body/frames are the same, it's just routing the wiring that's painstaking.

Are we talking TBI or multiport injection?

I would think the TBI would be relatively easy. If my TBI motor ever croaks I may decide to try and salvage a real fuel injected motor from a salvage yard and throw it in there but that is a lot more work. It would be nice to have a little more power then what these 350s have and still be smog legal.

Don't use a donor from an 87 truck as they have a poorly designed head that was revised for the 88 model years. The heads from 87 are super constricted and you can't find replacement manifolds or make lots of power out of them due to the crappy flow characteristics. I would stick with the TBI because they are easier than MPI to deal with (fewer wires and sensors) but just make sure you get all the parts necessary. That includes distributor, wiring harness, ECU, Sensors. It sounds like alot but it's not much compared to MPI.
