Any easy way to fix a stripped upper king pin? Mine was loose so I was torquing it down and it stripped, the threads in the C are damaged. I did a quick internet search and all I found is to weld it.

That’s all I know to fix it. Get it hot, crank the amps up, weld it, and then rethread it.

If you mess it up, you still have it welded shut so you can machine it

Or cut it off and C it

Other options include new housing

Any thoughts on what caused it? I just did king pins and had the housing on the ground while standing on a 4' pipe to tighten it up. I figured they were mostly indestructible.

I replaced the king pins about 7 or 8 years ago and I’m guessing I didn’t get them tight enough. I read they are supposed to be torqued to 550ftlbs. I had the upper steering arm off tonight checking things out and noticed the pin was loose, I got it to 525 when it stripped out.

?? Is that torque spec correct? Double check the specs ...

Thoughts, Mitchell Differentials , Shrewsbury, ma. Full custom + rebuilders. Seen them doing big king pin machining work on axles. From images, they should be able to recommended a repair procedure

I can mig it, I might see if my buddy will tig it for me.
Lots of heat is your friend

Personally I’d clean the crap out of it and run jet rod as hot as you can and heat it after so it cools slower.

If you opt to machine it, let me know. My axle guy specializes in odd ball crap. He may have the tap already. He’s down this way though
