ok guys I need your help... last week some one pulled 4 out 8 of spark plugs wires from my motor.. and I couldn't figure out why my truck was running like crap on my way home. I only drove the truck 7 miles from work to my house...when I got home I checked under the hood and found out what was wrong with the truck so I installed the plugs in the right location. I drove it for a few days after that day without any problems. then I didn't drive the truck for a few days, and when I wen't to drive the truck it wouldn't run. So I figured it had to the do with the ignition system so I put in a new ignition module, rotor, and coil. and I have brand new plugs that I might try but was wondering what it could be from not starting... it can't be the fuel delivery system I put in a new fuel pump and filter last month. the plugs seam fine should I throw in a new set f wires while I'm at it? what else should I look at? the truck wants to start but won't kick over...

Crank the truck over and have someone watch and listen to the injectors.
For the plugs, pull one and stick the plug wire on it, then ground the plug to the engine block and turn the truck over......Look for spark.

To check spark, pull off a plug wire, stick a spark plug in the end of the wire, ground the end of the plug to something and spin the engine over, look for spark.

To see if the injectors are injecting fuel, pull off the air cleaner and look at em while someone else turns over the engine. If you arent getting spark, take the ignition module back, as I have gotten a few bad ones new out of the box before, also make sure you use that dielectric grease under it when you install it.

If you are getting spark but no visible fuel, listen and see if the fuel pump runs when you switch the key on, if it does, then go buy a NOID light (about 2 bucks at autozone) and plug it into the injector harness, turn the engine over, the light should blink rapidly.

If it blinks, then they should be firing, if it blinks slowly or not at all, then you have another problem. Could be in the ECMB circuit which includes the fuel pump and IIRC the oil pressure sensor for the computer(back of the manifold near the distro). Also could be the coolant temp sensor in the front of the manifold telling the engine it is warm and doesnt need alot of fuel, when it is actually cold needing alot (I had that problem)

thanks, I'm going to check it out right now.
I do hear the pump run when I turn the key over.

so just pull a plug and connect the wire to it and ground it to the block right?

ok, I just checked to see it was getting fuel and it is...
going to check to see if it gets spark! if it doesn't get spark then should I take the module back? what else should I look at?

most places the ign modules have a warranty. The one I got from advance auto had a lifetime warranty, granted sometimes I would have to take em back sometimes when they were dead outta the box. There is a test for the coil in the haynes manual, but if you switch between the old & new coil that should eliminate a coil problem. I doubt both are dead.

update guys.... my dad's friend came over since he's an mechanic to check it out. he checked to see if it's getting spark and it was. there's fuel getting to the tbi. so then he checked the fire order and it was correct. so then he moved the spark plugs over forgot which way and it fired up. so I took it for a drive around the block and it would bog down at 25mph. I still haven't installed the plugs maybe tomorrow. so the truck has been sitting in my driveway and I haven't driven my truck for almost 3 weeks now. so what else should I be looking at? he's suppose to bring over a timing light to see how far off the timing it is. and he's going to put the wires back in the right firing order. he thinks it might be the the timing chain. what do u guys think?

I need to get this truck running right since I plan on selling the truck very soon but I need to truck to be running and fixed properly.

So the firing order was correct but he moved spark plug wires around anyway? And then blamed the timing chain for the motor running poorly? Checking the timing isn't a bad idea.

If I understand what you are saying, I would severly question the abilities of this "mechanic".

He had the wires on in the right order, just they didnt start out where they were supposed to??? That could be what he was checking. If its getting spark and fuel its either a timing issue or something wrong internally. Like a timing chain. If you're lucky....

yeah the fire order was right. so he was checking several things so he decided to move the wires over clock wise on the dist and the truck fired up! it's weird I know but it starts. but I haven't driven the truck since I took it for a test drive around the block and I parked it and haven't moved the truck since.

btw, I trust this mechanic he use to work for gm and he use to service my truck years ago when It was owned by another person... he didn't blame the timing chain he thought it might be that before he moved the wires around.
