Ran across this short 6 minute video discussing the 6.2 and 6.5. Also a 'Start & Run' of an engine on a Stand.

Some good to know info!

IMO the 6.2/6.5s (all years, even the newish GEPs) need each and every once of iron they can get, even the cylinder walls, no way would I bore one 0.080" for the minuscule increase in cubes. There is some rumors that early blocks had a higher nickel content but that rumor only applies to the 82 model year IIRC.

BB454, I agree completely. However, looking at the so called 'improvements' made by many posters on these forums, an experimental 'Bore Job' seems mild!

I thought the Video was worthy if for nothing more than illustrating what an UN-braced Starter can do to the Engine!

2insane had taken a couple metal samples from a few different blocks and sent them off for inspection. One was a so called '82 Red Block, if iirc.

Did this happen or am I lost in right field again @2INSANE ?

Sorry for the late reply! I’ve been busy building a Customers rig that has a bucket list a mile long and have not logged in awhile. Lol!

The early block 6.2 (Red block) so far is still just a rumor said to have more nickel content making it stronger. I am still in the process of getting more samples to confirm this rumor. Only 2 samples left which hopefully be acquired before this winter pending customer projects.

If you are looking to build a 6.2 or 6.5, I would highly recommend the Optimizer Block or a P400 Block.

Even if the Red block did have more nickel content, it still has problems with cracking between the valves and cracking on the mains. I have one in my shop with both of those issues.

If you are on a 6.2/6.5 budget, any non cracked 6.2/6.5 block can easily be made “Bomb Proof” and could last you a very long time. You just have to simply reduce heat and vibrations to these motors for longevity.
