V8 cummins

this V8 cummins was originally offered to toyota to install in the tundras, i didnt hear why but toyota decided not to so it so it was offered to nissan who in turn said they will take it, wont hold the rights to it, BUT want the numbers turned up for their use over what it will be sold to anyone else for.
 
I'm curious to see the price tag on it. I read somewhere that the median price for a new truck these days is mid $30k. As I'm sure most of us hear know, that price excludes any diesel offerings.

Would love a stripped down long bed full size with one of these smaller diesels. 500 ft lbs is really way more than most of us need. But an affordable full size work rig that can get 20+ mpg would be fantastic for tradesmen
 
ya 2 years ago i went on dodges site and custom built a dodge 5500 cummins, extra fuel tank, more aggresive tires, blah, blah , blah, no bed (cause i would just do a flat bed) and it listed for $55,000. if you walk on the lot here in town and just buy a stock 3500 cummins new its closer to $70,000
 
Yep. Pretty sun they'll have to do 10-15 year Ioans just to get people to buy em. $70k is ridiculous.

No it was Chrysler that was In talks for that engine from its inception years ago. Not Toyota. Toyota already has an impressive array of inhouse Diesel engines. They would have no need for a cummins.

Chrysler eventually passed on it in favor of the smaller 3.0l VM moturi. And jeep has had a diesel option for years.

not from the email i got at work. i work for cummins. dodge may have been the first interest but it was offered to toyota before nissan.
 
They're really going to have to come up with done beefy drivetrains to handle that. Those numbers are higher than 90s big blocks.

that was kinda my thought, but i dont know what nissan drivetrains will handle
 
No they dont..... They'll just void yer warranty from "hard use", like the Raptors.

The Supercharged (1st gen) Tundras had the same drivetrain as a base model.
Regardless of the 148hp difference, in the V8's.

At any rate, most of these 1/2 ton import trucks can handle a lot of abuse.
At least until the time the warranty runs out.
Then they break. :haha:
 
I think these 5.0l cummins will make awesome swap engines for all sorts of stuff. Once the write offs start piling up.

No one will buy a crate version. It'll be $12k+ For a new crate engine from cummins. I'd bet on that.

Remember a little thing called torque management.... Chevy does a pretty good job of making 300+ HP trucks feel like big fat turds when you step on the gas. I assume these new ultra light duty diesels will have a similar system.

But, these 5.0L's unrestricted... :woot:
I see this becoming the "Diesel LS".
 
As soon as the diesel Ram 1500s hit dealer lots I'll be test driving one. But with this maybe I'll have to keep my options open :thinking:

Never thought in a million years I'd ever consider a Dodge let alone a Nissian truck :screwy:
 
I don't think that Toyota dually would have went past concept phase even if the markets didnt collapse. Auto make do that all the time, concept stuff that they never intend to build. Seems like a waste of resources to me. No matter how cool the stuff is.
