Agreed!..One of my most butt clenching rides was when my '82 K2500 hit a deep puddle at fairly high speed and the dam power steering belt started slipping and squealing, making it lose power assist to both the steering and the brakes,WITH my 500 lb ingot plow on it,right when I needed them both most of all--when the vehicle in front of me decided to practically STOP dead in front of me!..I stood right up off the seat ,standing on the brake pedal, and tried swerving around it,JUST missed it by maybe an inch!.................................................................................................................................................................................................I think trying to stop or steer a vehicle with "dead" power steering or brakes is a lot harder than manual steering or brakes is,and can lead to an accident when you lose the power assist!...parking a truck with a plow and no power steering belt is dam near impossible...once your rolling its not that hard to turn the wheel, but once its under 10 mph, you'll need arms like Charles Atlas to turn that wheel in time to avoid hitting the car next to you in the parking lot..
Had to deal with other issues past few days - PO had some shop full of cholos do some tranny and TC work, fluid was leaking all over the place after few high speed highway runs. Missing went tube on TC, passages plugged with silicone, different bolts holding tranny pan and TC - just F'n mess. Oh, and maybe the leaking FUEL line is the reason I have ****ty fuel pressure. And finally was able to get the Snap On computer to read from ECM.....apparently the OBD connectors were pretty loose.....so it was more like exploratory surgery....
