So I'm in the process of de-cluttering the 350 in my k10 and I've basically traced all the vacuum lines and made sure everything is where it's supposed to be. I've been working passenger side to driver's side and over on the driver's side wheel-well there is a mini black death star looking sphere with a single line coming out of it.
Is this some sort of vacuum reserve or something? It has a line that runs towards the air cleaner then has a "T" fitting with two short lines coming out of it but neither are hooked up to anything. Is one for the cruise control? I capped the lines off for the time being and it seems to run perfectly fine.

Thanks for the help!

So that's all it goes to? I wanted to pull the little diaphragm thing for the cruise control out anyways since I never use it (and it doesn't really work right all the time) so I can yank that little ball with it?
I wonder why there was a "T" in that line if it only goes to the cruise control?

It should also be tied into the A/C system, if equipped, to keep some vacuum after the engine is shut down. That's the only two systems I am aware of using that ball, at least on ours. Newer vacuum operated 4x4 systems also tied into it.

Ok that must be what it was, I don't have any HVAC anymore so I'll yank it out.

They should of made that ball bigger for the cam in the 305's with the 601 heads . In my K5 if I wanted to change some of the ac controls , I had to let off the gas , get vacuum , and then get back on it to cruise .

I know what you mean. Now that i have a good HVAC box, if i am at WOT for more than 5 or 6 seconds on the freeway, the A/C starts to blend towards the floor.....and will blend back up when i get off teh gas. :haha:

reuse this thread like a (enter grotesque rude humorous joke here) and see if I can get a quick answer to my question.

I have the ball and one line coming from it.
I don't have CC anymore.
I also don't know where the line for my AC is/ was. I pulled so much out, there is a good chance I yanked the AC line too.
Can anyone show me where the line comes through the firewall and what it connects to inside the dash? I have nothing coming from the firewall.
thanks :)

I am not sure right at the moment where it comes through, but it goes directly to the controls. It is then switched out to the various vacuum pots to open/close the mixer doors.
