Vapor lock issue

Gates has many levels of quality. Even the good parts houses are getting the cheap stuff in an attempt to complete with the larger chains

Yes, this can be true.
Maybe swap that piece out with a new one and see what happens. I don't think that you can reverse the "memory " it has at the kink.
And you may be able find a length that lessens the bend some.
I've already swapped it with a longer piece, but unfortunately the fuel inlet threads on my qjet are totally muffed. Reman from oriellys, no threads, they jb welded the fuel filter bushing into the main body of the carb...

Well, I know that there are quite a few of us that have spare Q-jets laying on the shelf. You can post up in the wanted section if you are in the market for one to build.

@Capt Ron had probably a dozen Q-jets at the swap meet I went to help him set up. He probably still has them too.

I've got over a dozen qjets, bit most of mine are pontiacs. I have a couple chevy ones, but they are rarer casting numbers. I set out to rebuild the original one to the blazer, but the main body was cracked at the venturi screws. The reman is still under warranty, and better believe they are taking it back.

I can't remember which year Chevy it was, but one fuel pump I had to make a 270 degree bend instead of a 90 degree bend in the line to get it to work right. It made it more of a gradual bend instead of a sharp 90, if that makes any sense.

On the Qjet fuel filter, I put a good quality filter in there with a check valve and then I put a decent larger canister filter between the pump and the carb. That way, you don't have to mess with the carb filter and those fine threads. Some of that heat insulation velcro tape from Summit from the pump the carb and 90% of my heat soak went away, even when it's a buck 15 outside.
