Vapor lock

The problem with a pre-pump filter is when they get even a little bit dirty they will restrict the fuel flow to the pump and cause a greater vacuum in the fuel system and lower the boiling point of the fuel even lower than modern fuel already is which will then worsen your vapor lock issue. Your best bet is to leave that filter out since it isn't really helping anything anyways. Depending on how much alcohol they put in your fuel on the east coast (it's a huge problem here in Utah) you may end up installing an electric pump right at the fuel tank to push (pressurize and raise the boiling point) the fuel to the motor instead of sucking (apply a vacuum and lower the boiling point) the fuel up to the motor. 1972 is a stand alone year for the fuel cap and is smaller than the previous years if I remember correctly.
Ok, thanks for the info. I am almost positive that I was never having a vapor lock problem to begin with and that the clogged pickup and filter was the problem the whole time. But once I get the truck running I will experiment with or without fuel filter on top of the tank. Geuss I'll go to the store and see if the gas cap for a 70-71 is different then mine.
 
Here's the rest of them, truck is running good now. Still has a slight lag at WOT. When you floor it. Probably carb related.

The truck seems to be running good. Drove a good bit tonight, and didn't go easy on it either. Man it's fun to drive. Needs lowered 3/5 and Ls swap.
 
If you drop it, run some 2.5" spindles and 4" rear coil, maybe 1" rear block too. I'd favor stock spring height over a LCA hanging way close to the ground with smaller diameter wheels.
