Hello everyone,

Here starts the build of my 5th and hopefully last vehicle. I am stripping out my 69 GMC SB and using as many parts as possible to keep cost down.

The new project is a rust and dent free 85 K5 (basically a shell with an interior). Here is my to do list.

- Frame stripping & repainting - DONE
- ORD 1" body lift / flip tub bolts, cause #2 & #3 position nuts spin - DONE
- Al's liner undercarage - DONE
- Al's liner interior tub, interior shell
- ORD weld & bolt in frame brace

TX from 69 GMC
- Break down 69 GMC - DONE
- Edelbrock crate 350 with MPFI
- 700R4 w/ Art Carr gate shifter
- 203/205 ORD doubler w/ NWF cable triple stick
- D44 & 12 bolt (I know, but they have just been rebuilt & free...so i gotta blow em up before I go bigger)
- Custom bumpers from 4x4 Iron

- Twisted engine x-member/panhard bar - DONE
- Install ORD x-over sterring
- Install PSC hydro assist steering system
- Install Mark VIII electric fan
- DIY4X Dash - ORDERED
- Autometer carbon fiber gauges - JUST RECEIVED
- Install Tuffy center console

Hope I can get in done this year. It took me 9 years to build the 69...yikes!

I may need help along the way, please have patience if I ask a stupid question...there will be many

pics to follow

The first thing I did was remove the front clip and pull the old motor. Next I power washed, primered, and painted the frame and eng compartment...gotta love Krylon spray paint

then I finally got the whole frame painted and after that the wiring was next. luckily 99% of it was in great condition.

Now the #2 and #3 position that you normally go from the bottom up to tie into the hidden nuts under the floor, were broken when I loosened them...ALL 4. so i got to thinking, how do cause the least amount of damage when tearing up the floor. I didn't find alot of threads out there on the subject.

- What I wound up doing was taking a 12 inch drill bit and drilled up through the floor from the undercarage

- then I , used a uni bit and widened the hole to 1 1/4 inch. this was the smallest hole I could make that allowed the socket through the hole

- put bolts down in hole, through loose nut, and tightened up like normal

- bought a 1 1/4 inch metal plug from the hardware store to cap off the bolt.

Then I got the frame wrapped and started to prep frame for Al's Liner on the under carage, interior, and blazer top.

Here are some pics of the donor truck parts. If you ask Why would I? or How could I? .....the answer is, need the room for kids. It still breaks my heart tho.

Great looking build. Since I no longer have a truck, I have to live vicariously through those who do. Thanks

thats one nice donor truck! looks like you are off to a great start on the k5, keep it up.

thanks brother,

All I can say, is I almost got divorced from my lady when we "discussed" getting a bigger vehicle and it was "decided" I would either have to sell the 69 or convert it over to something else. Looked for a 1st gen, but couldn't find anything that didn't have a lot of frame or body damage or was too much money to buy. It's all good tho, the journey is as much fun as the destination....plus I like my girl more than I like that truck....just barely :D

So I got the blazer prepped and painted with Al's liner trhis week. It was labor intensive. I can see why the say the prep is where all the work is.

Let me just start by saying, I like the product and would use it again. The set-up (mixing) of the product was easy to follow. There is a big difference in how it is applied by how hard you squeeze the trigger. I squeezed about half way, and it came out pretty thick. Doing the undercarage, does present some problems, with how you shoot the gun and the angles needed to get complete coverage, but I made it work. My only complaint is that the gun is a bitch to clean after. The directions say let the gun sit for 24hrs then clean by simply peeling off excess material, I advise you clean it BEFORE it dries, as it does not peel off all that well from the gun. The paint hopper is def. a piece of cake tho.

I also got a chance to break down the donor truck this weekend. It's amazing how fast a truck comes apart. It took like 2 hours, and my 10 year project was no more.
