Yes that is Casey. Bobby loves the snow :woot:

Too bad the USFS is closing that road in the winter time. :poo:

We're gonna have to find some place that we can go that gets that deep this winter...

That year it was crazy deep...:woot:

WTF is that about? Were you somehow endangering the lives of other people driving down the road?If it were me helping somebody which I don't do often Id snap-Id snap:weapon2: if some redneck cop gave me a reckless ticket. Its considered to be as bad as DUI and can get jail time for that.I'm getting mad just thinking about it.:mad:If it were me and I somehow held it together Id be making a big thing out of that and straighten there a$$ out so they don't pull that crap again.I'm real curious about the exact circumstances leading up to that because it seems unbelievable.

The REAL problem is that the cops and the tow trucks are in bed together, if you pull them out, you are hurting the business.
I have paid up to $450 to get pulled out of snow. That is serious money they would be losing.

bingo. I remember i wrecked my black camaro. smashed the passenger side headlight and bent the hood down, blew out the tire. The cop told me if i tried to drive it, he would write me a ticket because the light was out, and i had to get it towed somewhere for repairs. I looked at him, walked over to the car, put the spare on, bent the hood back up, swapped a high beam bulb into the low beam spot, and walked back over and asked if he would ticket me now, he got all pissy ****y and drove off.

damn you guys sure make a big deal out a of a little thing lmao.
you also have some messed up kaws if they can give you tickets like that for helping somebody out.

I think the laws are like that to prevent some hillbilly from using halfa$$ equipment to pull people out that could be more dangerous than just waiting for a wrecker. And to prevent rubberneckers from causing more of an accident.

Dont get me wrong, I've been known to go out in blinding snow to look for stranded folks, but I know my limits and if I cant get a good hook, I wont try it. I'll gladly sit there with the person and wait for help, and I've even driven a few folks home knowing it'd be hours or possibly a day or two before the tow companies catch up. In Kansas (well Wichita anyways), if you arent blocking a road and there are no injuries, they wont even dispatch a unit (cop or wrecker) since they get bombarded with wrecks everytime it snows.

For me, I've been looking into mounting a winch and using a combo of both winch and strap to pull people out. But I also carry a shovel, a bucket of sand, and a small area rug. Those alone have gotten alot of people unstuck. This year, I'm looking into getting a v-bridle or similar that has all the little goofy hooks they use on newer cars. They are designed to fit in pockets on the frame so you dont have to use plastic bumpers or steering/suspension parts as anchor points.

My best advice for snow recovery, is to get snow chains for all four wheels, if you don't already have it.

Without chains, both straps and winch would be pretty useless.

two of these in your truck would make icy road winching recovery a whole lot easier. i drove a heavy wrecker for 10 years and these were essential on the oil slick Brooklyn Queens Expressway in NYC. cheap to make too with some 1/4" plate, a torch and some decent lumber.

hade to pull a buddy out of a ditch on the interstate once, all i can say is it wasent the best idea since the road was closed anyway lol but couldnt leave a friends truck behind haha.

hade about 50feet of tow strap goin to his front bumper while he was in the ditch in 4 wheel drive just killing it tryin to get out while i tried pulling it up to the road. got pretty sketchy when four mud tires with like 15lbs of air in them start spinning on I-75 haha with the tow ropes being slack haha

Get a 60 ft strap, it helps a lot. I've always been able to reach people good enough with a strap, I have never had a winch. A strap helps a ton with the stretch and then when it rebounds out they come, just make sure you have a solid connection point.

You can loop two 30 ft straps together, as long as you don't ever plan on getting them apart again without cutting one of them.

But don't ever connect two straps with a clevice or anything solid, if one strap breaks the other becomes a howitzer bullet.

Soak the 2 straps in water, they should expand then a screw driver usually does the trick.
