Have any of you guys ever had to have a vehicle shipped?
How'd you hook up with a company? Cost?
Anything or any one to specifically watch out for?

Need something shipped from Bay Area California to Nebraska. Other than the pickup being about 2 hours south, the entire trip can be done on I-80

Open trailer?

Have you looked at Uship?

I've used passport transport a couple times but that was for smaller sports cars in a closed trailer.

Based on vehicle size I'm guessing open trailer is a must which I'm fine with. I've looked at uship but never done anything with it. Is that the easiest way?

Would this be a brown and tan pickup that looks like it use to belong to Lee Majors?

A member here bought a suburban from me a few years ago and I believe that he used Uship. I am close to the Utah border, and it went to Ohio somewhere. $1000 back then.
I would definitely check out their fine print, and insurance stuff.

For reference....I recently looked at having a suburban shipped from Albuquerque to Nashville. It would have been I40 for the whole trip. I only got a few bids on Uship, probably because of the size and height. It ranged from $1700 to $2000. i decided to fly out and make the drive.

this is interesting as I passed up on a 1982 k30 crew cab roller.. no 1 ton up front. member here (forget name but need to find him as i may be ready for him to look for another for me soon...) was going to sell it to me for $300... I found a shipping company (just googled it and started calling) pretty much first one on list he said $1200 to ship. I said to him.. 1) does not drive 2) is a crew cab 8' bed... and he said all good $1200....

that is from Cali (or is he in washington?) to NJ... gah west coast to east coast...

man i shouldnt of passed that up... woulda been something like this...

44 h (2,929 miles)
via I-94 E and I-90 E

I may depend on if they have something going the other way.
And who you talk to...

What is it? I used to haul cars with 18 wheeler car hauler and some won't fit ie 4x4 lwb dually but normal size K5 will.

I used direct express auto transport to ship my newly purchased 87 K5 last February. I was a bit more than disappointed. Was open trailer in winter, which in itself, wasn't that bad, but the car above leaked oil all over the hood, from San Francico to PA. Wasn't happy on the onload. Plus the rocksuckers wouldn't deliver it to my house which they told me when they were only an hour from delivery. Had to meet them just off 80 and drive it 15 miles home not expecting to do that. From the time they loaded in San Francisco it was just under 48 hours to delivery. Lucky the driver didn't doze off on the trip, must have been amped up on something.

A lot of the brokers ( aka people that have web sites and just look like a shipping co) just put it out to highest bid. Had some Russian driver talk to his Russian boss on the phone when I was throwing a shit fit about the oil. They said file claim with their insurance. Sure thing.

the original quote is actually a starting bid. Waited two weeks with no takers then added another $100, had a deal in about 2 hours. Total cost was $1150.

In the end a good hand wash and it looked as I remembered when I last saw it.
Mission accomplished. Lessons learned.

The amount of the fee is all based on the mileage.

As previously mentioned....way cheaper to drive it yourself. IF that doesn't work for you, you'll probably be way ahead to sell it, and then buy one there (assuming that you like rust).

Get a friend to drive it out. Give them 1/2 what the shipping company wants, they get to keep everything after the expenses.

Thought about driving it. Besides the fact that it wouldn't quite make the trip very well in its current condition. It would make sense if it was just fuel and travel expenses, but with the added cost of flying back to get it, or even my friend flying home afterward, it makes it not worth the hassle. When the time comes I'll see what I can do as far as shipping cost. If I can get around and or under $1200 it'll be worth it

I just looked at it on Randmcnally.com. You are at 1,400 to North Platte (in the western part of the state). Sooooo, 1,400 miles is the bare minimum.
