Has anyone wrapped their truck instead of spending a ton of money on a good paint job? I know you still need decent paint underneath the wrap but im thinking it would be cheaper and it would give me time to save up for a good paint job.

Around here, wraps are at least $2k. Personally I'd do a scuff and shoot from a bargain shop, can be had for a grand or less.
Damn! I’ve been looking on Amazon and it looks like for about $200 - 300, I could get the decent 3M stuff and do the whole truck.

I'm in the same boat. My clear coat is falling off the truck. I'm starting to get some surface rust where the rear doors Meet the body up top. Nothing that can't be rubbed off with your finger, but I need to make a plan. I don't want to drop $5K on nice paint job for the suburban, but I need to do something.

I am still considering a lightly texturized liner of some sort. There are some interesting tintsble options out there. I'm not sure about the longevity of any of them. I've read mixed reviews across the webz.

I have considered stripping the truck down myself and doing some pre sanding and let a spray and go take a shot.

I’m thinking I’d probably run the wrap for a year or so just to save up for good paint.

These are the two I’m looking: (not in the 1ft x 5ft though)

Black High Gloss Realistic Paint-Like Microfinish Vinyl Wrap Roll with VViViD XPO Air Release Technology (1ft x 5ft) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FXY7W9U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PMIeAb4D2KTQF

That’s what I did with mine this past summer and the surface rust is back. I stripped it all the way down and primed it. I didn’t use the best primer but I’m thinking if I sand it back down, shoot it with the zinc chromate and then wrap over that, it should last a while.

There's a member here that did his own. Can't remember his screen name but his YouTube is Merricks Garage.

The wrap material is permiable so it won't trap moisture. With that in mind, I would question its ability to prevent rust, or the spread of it. It would be best to apply over good paint.

It also won't cover blemishes. The vinyl will adhere down into any dings, dents, or paint chips.

Best deal is if you can apply it yourself. Like ChrisPerry said, if you add install it's going to get up to $2000+. There are tons of YouTube videos that show wrap installs for tips on how to do it.

I’ve been studying a couple YouTube videos and it really doesn’t look too bad. I think I might be the guinea pig and give it a shot. I’d get a good look for a few hundred, instead of a few thousand. There’s now way I could have it painted to the same price. This will give me some time to figure out what color I want on this thing too.

I didn’t realize he was on here. I’ve seen a bunch of his YouTube stuff.

Yeah, his build is here. He used to be somewhat active but not much at all over the last 6-12 months.

Good rattle cans with a fan tip, Low wind day, random parking lot with no one in it (like a closed store). Decent look, easy to fix trail rash, and less work. :waytogo:

Most of it can be masked just using a thin plastic,or heavy paper handheld sheet of some kind. Slide it along the edge as you spray.
