So I opened the vent window on the driver's side yesterday and now the latch thing is nearly falling off. Are there any good fixes/replacements for these? Mine appears to have simply come apart and is barely holding together.

I think I saw a sort of lock deal somewhere once. Had a knob that mounted in the stock hole and you tightened it down to prevent the window from being opened on the outside. Basically just harder to mess with than the stock setup. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I can't find anything.

Any hints, not finding it.

Do a search, there is a post where you can get stock replacements free.

I'm just going to replace the whole damn vent window with a piece of stainless steel welded to the frame.

Oh hell, I was thinking vent window in the rear lol.

Sorry about that, pieces I was thinking of/linked to are for the rear slider in pickups and side sliders in K5's. :(

The one you linked to and what you already have are "locking". Those things work fine IF you have them setup right.

If you lose the roll pin from the setup, it will loosen right up. Easy fix though.

I'll have to check out NAPA then.

I swear somewhere I saw a locking dohickey that completely replaced the factory setup. Frankly I've never liked these things so I figured someone has to have come up with something better.

The funny part is my vent windows actually work good...don't drool water like my old K5's did back in the day.

The hinges on mine are completely rusted away. That's why I'm just replacing it with a piece of sheet stainless.
TIG it in place, squirt some paint on it, call it a day.

I never use the damn things anyway.

Gotcha. Considering this thing has no tint, AC, or openable rear window I figure as much air flow as possible is a good thing.

You interested in a sliding rear window? Comes with a free Deadhead sticker. :D

Ummmm...yeah...maybe...money's tight right now due to the house roof but if you still have it in a while I'd be interested.

Parts donor or something?

Close. Take-off from my '80 long-bed. Rollin a Blazer, now.

The window is just sitting around collecting snow, so whenever. Comes with an extra bag o' latches (as detailed previously), too!

I called Southco and they sent me like 10 sets.

If you ever get down here to the world, just buy me lunch or something and it's all yours.

That might be happening sooner or later. Hell, I was in Lansing this weekend.

Just because I never have...how much of a b%&ch is installing a rear window?

No idea. Never put one in. I saw some sort of technique on Trucks! a few weeks ago. Involved spray lubricant and some rope, IIRC.

I cut the seal to get this one out, so that was pretty easy. :D

e-mail me if you're going to be anywhere in the area. Say... Brighton or further SE.

Okay, I'll keep you in mind. The Tracker needs a new windshield so I might see what they'd do about a package deal as well.

I might be a bit south of Pontiac in a few weeks so I'll keep you in mind.
