So last week I picked up a 1990 w250 Dodge with a Cummins, auto tranny, 205 and dana 60. The price on the old girl was just too good to pass up on. Ended up paying the guy 1800.00 for it.
She has been taken care of pretty much all of her life by the owner, as he was a Cummins Mech.
Anyways, he did mention that there was a vibration in 2wd, that he couldn't figure out. He thought it was from the tranny, but I'm not so sure.
All he really used the truck for was to take his boat to the lake and back, so he kept the rig in 4 high with the hubs unlocked and you couldn't ever feel it.
Fast forward to today, I've cleaned the rig up and am starting to get into the mechanicals. I've been driving in the 4 high and 2wd, back and forth trying to figure out where it's coming from. It was a late start this morning, so I went to get some coffee. I went to the store in 2wd. All the way there, it was beautiful, on the way back, it got scary loud.... like kept getting louder, until I pulled over and slammed it back in 4 high, still with the hubs unlocked. She drove like a dream after that.
So what do you guys think?
Me, being kinda dumb, my thinking is the 205?? The transmission is going to do it's thing and supply power through the tail shaft, to the TC no matter what. It's not till you switch up the TC do you feel this vibration...
I don't really know.. Looking for some help here.
Thanks..
Pics of the rig.. and yesterday, I picked up the bed trim pieces for the rig from the PO. Should make her look even more pretty.
