You know you have a lot of soft rear end travel when your accellerating a sharp corner on the street with the sway bar connected and you can lift the inside front tire about a foot off the ground through the whole turn! I was supprised the first few times but I'm getting used to it now.. really gets traffics attention!

I'm thinking video might be in order! My detroit is rather tame on the road, I only bark them when the wheel is at full lock. I think the need for the rear two tires to go the same speed is pushing the outside tire farther down, the the swaybar is holding the inside tire up. Without the swaybar I'm too chicken to take any corners fast unless they are long and even. This all happened after I put the top back on with the added extra weight of the cage. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sounds like you need a rear sway-bar (w/ disconects of course). The reason that your front tire is lifting is because it is bearing more then its fair shair of the roll moment.

The front roll center also comes into play. I'll let you kick that one around in your head for a day or 2 /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

WOW that is soft. I have seen jeeps do that but never a full size (unless mine was doing it and I didn't know it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) I had to stiffen the rear up on my truck by adding a couple leafs. It was just to ill on the road and I tow a trailer pretty regularly

My buddys sammy does that with coiled suspension and welded rear. its friggin scary.

Yes, and it only does it making left turns, but never right ones! The body lift did its fair share in raising the center of gravity too, above and beyond suspension geometry. There are a number of reasons why I'm building my own chassis, one of which is to lower the truck yet maintain tire clearance /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Just imagine that you're cruising down the road at 50+ MPH, minding your own business. Then suddenly someone pulls out of a side street right in front of you. How is your truck going to respond to emergency avoidance maneuver steering input at that speed? That could get REAL scary. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Unfortunately, I made the decision a long time ago that if someone does something that stupid in front of me, I'm going to test the trucks 4 wheel disk brakes in a straight path to hit him square with both tires. Lets face it, if a truck with tires this big hits anything of size, at speed, and doesn't hit it square... your rolling over. I've been in a few last second near misses since the truck "grew up" and the disks always stopped those 38's like my BMW in record time... I do fear a last second hard right then left though which is why the cage was so important! Would be a waste of a good truck though!

My brother's TJ does it... The torque of the engine helps it to happen turning left. Harder to do it right.

Hey Bob, if your going to get home before dark today, let me know and we'll film this. I'm getting good at taking the corner at your house with the wheel floating high!

A soft top is definately on my list of items to get, but ditching the k5 body might limit my options!

Marv, yeah its definately an engine torque issue, I tried all this morning to get it to lift on a right turn and no dice! Whats nice on the left turns is that it lifts up and hits a ceiling where it is rested on the rears flex potential. Kind of feels like riding a wheelie on a 2-stroke 250cc dirt bike where the front comes up to a cushion zone long before it goes over backward.

If bob can make it home before dark... I'll post video!
