Vin plate and matching title

Looking for a vin plate and matching clean title for 74-77 chevy K10.

Jeff
I have a VIN and papers for a 76 K10 or K20, I need to check.
But it's not a title that I have, but a junk slip. It proves ownership, and I can legaly scrap it.
Here to get that registered, you need to get it inspected and then you get a salvage title.
I don't know how things work where you are but you can have them for the postage, like maybe $5.:dunno:

Here in California once a vehicle has been junked it can NEVER be registered again. The junk yard may sell as many parts as they like off the vehicle but CANNOT sell the vehicle as a whole and most certainly cannot give/sell/trade the VIN and paperwork.

Sorry but not true, and I have done it more than once, and I know the sequence to do so too.
It took a lot of research at DMV but I had to learn it because I had bought a nice MGB roadster from a recycler and I was not ready to give it up.
I got it registered and drove it another 3 years before I parted it and scrapped it :D
Here in CA you need to get a brake and light inspection, then smog, then you can register it and you get a SALVAGE title.
It will be written on the title.

In CA there were a few cars the junk yards could not sell, it was the cash for cluncker cars and the ones the state buys back to get off the road when they are gross polluters and you qualify for the program.
And I know that because I had one car that qualified, and I talked to the junkyard about it.
They couldn't even sell parts off those, they went straight to cruching.

A vehicle that was issued a JUNK SLIP can NEVER be re-registered again in the state of California. Now a salvaged title vehicle CAN be re-registered as i'n personally had 2 myself already. Just because you buy/bought a vehicle from a junk yard doesn't mean automatically that it was issued a JUNK SLIP. Junk yards have complete vehicles for sale all the time but they never had a junk slip issued against it and is why it can be sold as a complete vehicle. You are correct about needing a smog/brake/lamp inspection though upon re-registering the vehicle.

 CLICKY

Well I stand corrected then. looks like the revision happened last year sometime.

It's OK I got used to this with my wife, after I ACTUALLY do somethig she still argues with me that no it can't be done, never mind that I just did it, but no it CAN'T be done.
At least Scott will stand corrected once he sees the written words, my wife won't, she will take it to the grave.:pimp:
I did forget when I told what needs done is the VIN verification process that is added on top of what is needed with a salvage title.
I was doing the research when I wanted to put together a vehicle from remnants of vehicles, I found out that I can coble together anything I want but I need junk slips, reciepts for purchase of every part that will be in the project, and then it will be inspected by CHP or DMV, then if there is no VIN present they will issue me one, But it will be a new one and I will have to comply with the strictest emissions standard.:doah:
So it's better to have some old VIN no matter what.

this is why when you part out cars you never give up a title and vin plate you just cut it up and tell them you restored a truck and these are old parts, also make sure there is NO trace of a vin or they will turn it in, i have a file with titles from probably 7 k trucks with matching vins you never know when your gunna run across that awesome k30 with no title for cheap!:D

where are you guys getting those little roset rivets at(to put vin plate back in truck)?my truck doesn't have plain old rivets in it.

Well if you need to do that in your state, there is a guy on the internet, you can do a search, last time I checked he was charging $100 for a set of 4 rivets:eek1:
For me, I found a set the right size and carved them out slowly so they look good enough for the inspection.
Haven't used it yet, but I am pretty sure if the inspector didn't have a reason to think they have been messed with, that they would think they are original.

if i was to do it i might just cut out the dash frame section with vin and glue it back over the area of other dash frame. once the pad is in place you cant tell.

I would be careful about posting in a public forum admitting to illegally swapping VIN's between vehicles... discussing how it is done for research purposes is one thing, admitting you have done something illegal can bite you down the road after you have long forgot about this post.

especially the always comment.:dunno:
I know what I need to do if I ever want to do it, but I have never done it.
I have sold trucks where the guys didn't want the rest of it with the VIN so I cut out a 6"x6" section, so it can be done without touching the Rivets, just because they usually look at the rivets not what is around.
I also took out the whole dash on the last K5 I parted, that way someone can change the whole piece, more work but easier than a cab swap.
