Help identifying this old engine. V8. 1967 c7500. Distributor is in the front like a Ford....wtf?

They made some funny big blocks back then. If I remember right, the 336 was available in a gas or diesel version. I do not remember where the distributor is located.

How about a 478 or 637 cubic inch and then there was a 702" v12.

At first glance we thought it was a basic 350 sbc. Valve covers looked the same, etc. Then we realized the distributor was in the front. Definitely not a big block and I'm starting to think it isn't the original engine. Guess I'll have to try and locate some numbers on it somewhere. I have the vin but haven't been able to find a good decoder for a 13 digit vin.

VIN decoding..maybe try a parts manual from the proper vintage. Sometimes you get lucky and even if not the same chassis, the parts manuals will show all the VIN breakdowns for that year.

Possibly could be, since it is a GMC, a V6, but even those have dizzy in the back. Valve covers look like a W block 348-409. Buick n caddy are the only ones that come to mind, without pics.

Sorry for delayed reply. Waiting for the seller to come around before laying hands into it. Here's a few pics. This my third attempt at uploading them.... service sucks here

Except the distributor is on the wrong side? Is the picture reversed?

I think most Buicks were drivers side?

Thinking 430 Buick is the correct answer
