vortec 350 heads on a 305

i just dont have the money to do a 350 swap
well,do you have the $$ for a set of vortecs? 525 for a set,and another at least 140 for a manifold off ebay, unless you go used, which sometimes isnt always cheaper, buying used heads is always a gamble, could have been overheated and cracked, you jsut never know.thats why every set of heads ive ever bought were brand new,be it AFR's or vortecs.

buy a rebuild kit from northern auto parts, dont get there cam that comes with it,delete that option,id go for the double roller chain, the flat top hyperutectics, then go to summit or jegs, get your self a cam in the 260-270ish duration range, have your 416s ported,or do it yourself, gasket matching alone does wonders on them,as the factory cast is pretty rough.slap the shortblock together, toss the heads on and go have fun with it,i highly doubt you would be disapointed. i was skeptical at first when i threw mine together, but i really didnt have much to lose, hands down the fastest 305 ive ever driven,or been in. not to mention i BEAT THE HELL OUT OF IT,and it never let me down.

obviously your 86 t/a isnt stock.

if your saying your 86 t/a ran 13.50s all day with 250 HP,im gonna call BS. even 250 RWHP, let alone 250 crank hp,wont push a thirdgen into the 13.5 range, unless you had NO interior, and serious weight reduction.

what induction are/were you running? tpi?carb?tbi?
and it wasnt anything special either...

355 (9.1, 624 heads-1.94/1.60)
222/222 .447/.447 cam
Edelbrock TES headers, no cat, Flowmaster cat-back
topped with an Edelbrock Performer RPM/Holley 600 or 650 dual feed (cant remember which)

everything else was stock, 700R4/2.73s in a drum 10 bolt, stock trans, 26" street tires. no lightening to speak of.

i didnt believe it would do it either, until i saw the back to back timeslips. :dunno:

and bythewayi didnt powerbrake it,1500 rpm launch and feathered it from there.i did accidently trip the linelock though, but i clicked it off right after i hit it.
looked and sounded like a powerbrake burnout. whatever
