Walker Super Turbo muffler sound check

Well I put them both on tonight and I must say, not much of a difference. I don't know what it is. My truck is now slightly quieter than before but not much. When I listen to it idle most of the exhaust noise seems to come from the headers, not the tailpipe. And it's not a light tapping that usually occurs when you have bad gasket, it's an overall "rumble". But when cruising there's not much sound at all.

Either the headers have a leak other than the gasket or the noise is just inherent to the headers. It almost seems that even if I put stock silent mufflers on there would still be a bit of a rumble from the header area.

It's not a big deal and I'm not buying any more mufflers. Maybe I'm just being to picky.

If they are cheap headers, you get what you pay for...
Well they aren't cheap. But they are old. They're a set of Hooker Super Comps...I have the receipt for them...they were installed in 1977!:eek1:

IMCO super turbos are quieter than Dynomax, if you want a little rumble but a quiet cruise those are the ones to buy.

WOW! And they are still in good shape??? You must take some pictures!!!

Headers are louder than manifolds cause they are way thinner. A couple of ways you could quite it down, a crossover pipe on a dual exhaust will quite it down. I don't remember if you have one or not. Other way would be some baffles http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=DTC%2D72%2D32520&N=700+115&autoview=sku

or these

or get some cheap cherry bombs and put them before the mufflers. I ran cherry bombs with a turbo muffler on my blazer for a while and it was pretty quite at idle and under light acceleration.

This is of course assuming that most of your noise is coming from the mufflers but I have heard trucks with headers that are pretty quite. Dang near stock sounding
