I bought a motor in unknown (but looks good) condition for my k5. It's a 5.7 350 and is what looks to be a stock 1970010 block casting for my 71.

I'm looking for a -qualified shop or individual- (or a referral to one) in the northern California SF-Bay area to inspect and rebuild the motor for me. My wife won't let me spend any more time in the garage otherwise I'd do it myself. I'm just looking for a simple teardown and rebuild of whats needed, not a stroker or anything real fancy. I need it to run strong and not leak oil all over my driveway.

Preferrably located in the cities of Fremont, San Jose, or Morgan Hill and I can pay cash.

Send a PM to Scott (4X4HIGH)

He's a member here, owns a machine shop in Fremont and has built 3 engines for me...and a few others for other CK5 members here (like Burt4X4).

I'm sure he can help.

What Greg said...

Scott is pretty reputable. I've never had any work done by him but he does know his shiit.

I thought i got back to you on this already. If i did not then i'm sorry about that. At any rate i can take care of your needs. You just need to drop it off at my shop and once i tear it down i can give you an exact quote.

Hi Scott,

Ah, I never got a reply back so I thought you weren't interested\available. Maybe the PM's were down at the time. Would Wednesday be a good time to come by? I'll have the motor in the back of the truck.

No problem, just call first to make sure i'll be there when you get there. I take lunch around 12:00-1:00 and i'm sometimes out making deliveries. In case you don't have the number it's, 510-796-2600

Just to add an "Amen" ... Scott knows his sh!t and will take care of you. (Heck, he puts up with *me* and my n00bness :haha: )

Thanks guys. I dropped the motor off at his shop last week.

Note for next time: old tires are not a proper engine stand for moving motors in the back of a truck. One tight turn and... wammo! Oh well, I'd rather learn before the motor is built rather than after.

Yep, the engine is now SAFE and sound at my shop.

For anyone wanting to know what he's talking about on the old tire, well he had the engine sitting on the tire and as you probably now guessed, one turn and the engine was standing on end on the harmonic balancer when he arrived for me to unload it. :haha:

Jeez, what's the problem? I've seen Iceman deliver motors on a tire and some 2x4's

3970010 , not 1970010 :wink1:

Got those growing out of everywhere here . My nice .060 over is in the stand as of Thursday :pimp:

Believe it or not, I went to 5 different parts stores looking for an engine "cradle" as they seem to call them. Every place had an ad saying they were on sale, but they were all out of stock.

Scott, is that something your shop can supply along with all the other stuff it's gonna need? I can't take another trip into Kragens.

My shop doesn't have engine cradles but i have made several in the past that i've sold. My store can however supply you with whatever tune-up parts and what not you'll need to get this back and running again. PM me if you want to talk about me building you an engine cradle.
