Got my truck back together enough it's really time to put some exhaust on it. it's an 84 CUV 6.2. I'm having trouble sourcing a piece of "universal" piping that correctly mates to the exhaust manifold. It needs to have a (guessing?) 45 degree flange, then a flat area, so that a 3 hole ring can retain it. Unfortunately I don't have the original hardware or downpipes, so I'm not even really sure what I'm trying to find when I look at parts stores.

Would a universal header reducer pipe work? (looks like it has the correct angle, 3 bolt pattern). Would need to find what size to get too.

Anyone know a name for this piece (since it doesnt seem to be listed under any of the exhaust catagories I've found on parts store websites) or even a number I can use to look it up?

Thanks

If you have the three hole flange you could make a collector stub and build off that. The diameter at the outlet of the manifold is 2". A 2" collector would work, but I've never seen one that small...they're usualy 3" or larger depending on the application.

An exhaust shop should be able to put the flare on the end of a couple of short pipes easily enough. Add exhaust donut and you're set...again as long as you have the three hole flanges.

I guess then I'm looking for a used set of those plates.. and even the first 12" (+ or -) of the exhaust downpipes.

Anyone have a pair kicking around? I know it's not parts wanted, but diesel specific parts seem to pop up quicker in here than the wanted forum.

Hrm.. I wonder if theres a 2" collector version of a purple horny muffler =)

I have a set from an 82 6.2L. They are kinda rough, but I'll snap a picture for you and you can decide if you want them. I have both the flanges, and the flared ends.

And I just scrapped the exhaust off of my parts truck a couple weeks ago :doah: BUT I did cut it off about 6-12" off of the exhaust manifolds so I still have the flanges and a short section of pipe. I'll snap some pics. If it works you can have it for $10 + shipping.

Go with his stuff, I found one of the pipes flattened like a pancake in the mud where I must have run over it with the bobcat, doh!

Alright. Guess I'm waiting on kennyw... I'd swear i've either bought or sold from/to you before Kenny..... When I was in Hawaii even.

Possibly, I've been around here for a while and I'm always selling parts... It may be a few days before I can pull them off the motor. I'm in the middle of rebuilding a transmission and hopefully will be working on installing it this weekend.

Getting any closer? I should know this weekend if I need them kinda soon, or if it can be put off. If the tranny I rebuild works, then exhaust is next on the list. If not, I have a 465/205 combo lined up to go in the truck.

Got the tranny in, started it up... only to find a big oil leak coming out of the bellhousing area :doah: Gotta pull it back out this weekend and find the leak then I can go back to these other things that have been stacking up on me. I'm writing myself a note to pull them off this weekend though. Should not take me long to throw a rachet on there and get it off.

Got them pulled off today. Kinda short on the passenger side pipe... They have seen some road salt in there life, but its just a heavy surface rust. Still very solid at this point. They will fit in a flat rate box for $19 shipped.
