after looking at that pic you may be better off with one of those big ass military PTO winches, like upwards of 20k lbsWell... if each truck had a 9.5k I dont think it would have come out with out a 4th.
This is the reason I bought the biggest winch I could. Warn 16.5t

I get what ya'll are laying down. Maybe it'll just be stationary on the blazer then. Then if i want another i'll buy one for my DD
As for going Warn theres no question that's what i'll get be it a 12 or 9,000lb
MY dad was telling me yesterday at work the one he had on his old chevy was a 12,000 lb Warn and he bought it for like $400 new in around '90??
I wish i could find one of those
Watched a guy at work the other day use his 8k lb smittybilt?? winch and in mid winch it wouldn't stop and he had to jam it into freespool. thn after he thought he fixed the problem it did it again. Only this time he jammed it into freespool breaking off the lever

Just thought i'd throw in a pic of dad's old truck with the winch on the front. Pretty sure this was pre-40" tires and around 1990

There are always extreme cases and that is definitely one of them. I'm not saying this is the case in these situation, but I can't count the number of times where I have seen an extraction where a simple change in position of the winch or strap, or a couple minutes of hi-lift or shovel works makes all the difference. Here is probably my worst stuck from many years ago (4" lift, 35" tires)...I know not as severe (in the picture above the truck is obviously at a large angle so the the other side is not nearly as deep either), but a single Warn 8274 with a snatch block pulled me out. So again, not nearly as bad but I can't imagine it's the difference of "three 12k winches vs. one 8k winch" worse.Best I have of my friends Blazer. This Blazer is on 44s. Yes, thats a guy walking at ground that is at the level of the door handles.
I have also found that hooking up a strap and yanking a stuck truck out is usually way more effective than using a winch. About 5' of slack with a 3", 30' snatch strap and a 5 mph run is a lot more effective than a slow static pull with a winch. The only reason we ever use a winch is when you simply can't get a good pull angle on the stuck vehicle.

The truck was hardly on an angle. No where near like your picture.
Shovel... yeah, 95% of the time a shovel is a waste of time when you are talking about mud.
Yes, this was about the most extreme stuck we ever had. But, not really all that far over the top. The 44 Boggers, a very healthy big block and an even healthier right foot did aid a lot to the severity of the stuck.

I love my xd9000i. I sold the cable and roller fairlead when I got it and run rope on mine. I think it is a waste to make it portable from one truck to another though. Even moving it from front to back would be a pain in the a$$.
I have an XD9000 for the front, and a Ramsey RE 12,000 for the rear..

I hope you find the winch you like... They are all awesome. I just jumped in here to gloat. I used my 12000lbs bulldog whinch 500.00 to pull a semi out of a hole (volvo) It was awesome!

i can believe it took more than 1 winch...this stuck doesnt look that bad...the 2 trucks n tha 1st pic both had 8000# warns with 1 being the 8274 n both were snatched blocked...they weren't very effective...it took an excavotor to get me out...now granted they WEREN'T dead headed(i.e. tied off to something solid) but they'd didnt budge my truck @ all...they wouldnt take any advice from a young kid as they called me about how/where to hook up n tie off to...but it was bured over the diffs...

Yeah wish I would have taken them. My buddy has a 9500lbs winch bulldog and he was behind me about 10ft with his line hooked to mine then mine five feet from the big rig (no trailer) Got the front passenger steer tire wedged in a hole and thus stuck. So my winch pullin his power dividers in and the other winch taught. Success. Not really that spectacualr, but was my first resque with said winch

it doesn't matter how many winches there were. they were not tied off to anthing solid. so the resistance of you in the mud is greater then then them just sitting on muddy ground thus just them being pulled toward you and you not moving at all.

I bought a good used M12000 with controller, cable and fairlead for 500.00 a few days ago out of my local classifieds. The guy had a few of them from old work trucks.
After reading that neither of the winch trucks were tied off, it sounds like they were just sliding towards the Blazer. So it has nothing to do with the size of the winch but rather using it correctly.
