Warn Full float kit for 10 bolt

AZ Kickin has one and some others sell the brackets. I run an after market axle that advertises to be 35% stronger than stock. Moser engineering is a good source for the axles, I think Off Road Design also sells them.

I'm at a similar sort of decision point right now. I don't see myself ever going larger than 35s and, from what I've read, the 30 spline 10 bolts are just about as strong as the 12 bolts any ways.

So I'm trying to decide if I'll beef up my 10 bolts or go to 14 bolt.

One key concern for me is ground clearance. How many inches of minimum ground clearance will I lose going from the GM 10 Bolt to the 14 Bolt?

Thanks

I ran the Warn Kit in a Bronco I built, 9" with a detroit 36" super swampers. After blowing through, 6 sets of hubs yes six 4 standard sets and two modified by warn. I worked with warn on the issues. Mine was a semi DD, here is what happened with the hubs.
1. Leaking gear lube all the time from the hub dials
2. Inner seal would leak, lead to the above
3. Hubs would un-lock, pretty much whenever

FIX
I went to drive flanges, took the inner radial seal out and let the gear lube will lube the hub bearings. Once this was done, they were problem free.

Holy post dredging Batman!

Did you look at the date on the original post?

I don't think Warn makes the full floater kits anymore. Those were discontinued a long time ago. Good luck finding parts for them, too.

:haha:Ha, yes I noticed the date... but I guy's gotta start somewhere.:dunno:

Even if the Warn kit is no longer available, I'd still love to know the ground clearance loss going from 10-bolt to 14-bolt if anybody would be kind enough to help out a newbie.

Look into a 14 bolt semi floater from an 88-98, still 6 lug, still c clip, but alot stronger. You could do a full floater, could either keep it 8 lug or look into a 6 lug conversion but pricy. And then shave it to gain more ground clearence.

Well there is an alternative, that is in the middle, I got a D60 rear full floater, has more clearance than a 14 bolt, and is barely lower than a 10 bolt, and is more than enough for 35-36" tires.
I am redrilling mine to 6 lug so I can keep my cheaper tires choice open.:thumb:

Just got a Dana 60 rear for my m1009. It is from a 72 Ford, how easy are they to bolt on?

Thanks very much for your responses everybody. I really appreicate your help. It's all a bit complex for a newbie like me that's just starting out. So many variables to consider in planning things out.

I think I'll try to pick up an 89-91 K5 with the 30 spline corporate 10-bolt. I'll do a 4 inch spring lift, throw on some 33"s, add some safety, recovery and body protection over time and that will sort of be phase 1. This will give me the moderately capable rig I'm looking for... something that can take me on some pretty rough roads for remote camping and hunting. I'm not planning on doing any serious boggin' or crawlin'.

Should I decide I want to go with bigger tires at some point in the future, I'll swap in some D60s/14-Bolts and put on some bigger tires and lockers as phase 2.

You ALWAYS go bigger. Whether you want to or not. Its the curse that comes with these trucks.

Hey, I remember saying a similar statement.....

Now, I'm planning a triple bypassed out pre-runner style, sand truck.
Damn this addiction....

:haha:

on a side note:

I wouldn't trust a 10b rear.
Not one w/ stock component's, anyway...
Just my opinion.
