Ok, 84 GMC K2500 I'm looking to convert to manual front hubs. The truck sees zero off road time. Only time I'll lock the front hubs is come winter time in the snow.
That said I see Warn offers a HD and standard duty kit. Times are tight but I only want to do this once..... can I go the standard duty hub in my conversion? Also what's this other kit (nut?) Warn Says I Need With Their kit?

Thanks
Tommy D

Warn has the "Premium" hubs and a "Standard", the latter having a coupla plastic parts that are metal in the fancy one. No sense in saving a few bucks to have it crap out when you need it, get the Premiums. IIRC they're like $130 for your 10-bolt axle.

I've no clue what other parts you might need; my axle should be the same as yours and I used only their part #20990. You might post up what Warn # is being suggested.

They suggest purchase of 32720 Spindle nut kit as well

Oh, that's just a replacement part if yours are crappy. I don't believe the auto-hubbed axles had anything different there. If you're just replacing hubs, you don't need to touch those; you'd only be in that deep if you were replacing the bearings.

Thanks man, it's been a lot of years since I had one of these appart. Dont know the trucks history so I may tear down and repack bearings. Any idea what they want them torqued to?

That gets as many answers as what kind of beer to drink. You can search here if you want details.

There are two nuts. You torque the inner one to some setting, then put in a lock nut with a pin, and finally the outer nut.

I recall doing them by hand, i.e. tightening until the hub has just a bit of drag when spinning, then backing off a smidge.

If your 84 is like my 84, you may find that your stub shafts have their snapring grooves too far inboard to fit those hubs.

Due to this, I wound up not using the smaller snapring. Pictures in my Suburban thread if you're interested.
