water pump back plate torque specs

I think thats just the way they looked for the display model. The manifolds should not be orange.

wire looms for the alternator go on top of valve cover, the oil fill is on the passenger side toward the front of the engine, hth...

OK...I think you are right...when I put the oil filler hole forward on the passenger side, the wire loom brackets end up on top...the forward bracket is higher and more angled than the rest....that must be for the alternator....which is right there close by...I think we got it solved

Now if I match the drivers side to that with the wire loom brackets topside, that puts the PCV valve hole forward
 
Ha! Thats obviously for display, but that is funny! And having the pcv valve forward on the driver side should be correct.

It's one of those pictures that is supposed to suggest the truck is good for hunting, fishing and on the construction site as well. Classic picture.

I'm sure you knew that. It's a cool picture for sure.

anybody know what the torque spec is on that steel plate on the back of the water pump?
So why can't the rebuild factory set them to that torque? The note to check it doesn't really build my confidence.

I never did find out the correct torque...Ryokens chart that shows the torque by bolt size and thread would be accurate but I didn't have any way of checking them without driving to the parts store....I torqued them to 8 Lbs without twisting the heads off...so I guess it will be ok...that's what the oil pan bolts were torqued to and these bolts were just a little smaller than those. 8 Lbs is probably too much...

It's a wonder that I didn't break something off...I was looking at a chart in my manual and it was a bit confusing because it listed different engines...and some of the torques were in inches...glad I did torque anything down to 135 ft Lbs...because it was inch Lbs..:eek1:

I kept waiting for the waterpump bolts to snap, but the gasket is thick and rubber so there was a lot of room to flatten it...hand tight just didn't feel like it was enough to seal...
 
the easiest way to give my brain a general torque calibration is to base my 3/8th's bolts at 30 to 35 lb's... I than base all my wrist calibrated torques on that, plus or minus for diameter, grade, etc...


in other words... critical components? rotating assembly, flywheel, oil pump, etc, I've got the wrench out... water pump, odd's and ends thing like that, I've installed eleventy thousand, I know what 35 lb's feels like... the ole german gooduntight rule is in effect...
 
On small fasteners, I make sure to use a small (i.e. short) ratchet, so that I can't apply enough torque to snap them.

I suspect my wrist is not as well calibrated as Ryoken's. [No snide comments!]

You don't think those bolts will snap from too much tension do you?
