Waterneck application question

What different waternecks can I put on my SB? Will one from a BC fit, or a diesel?

I am putting my York on the truck while I have the top end apart, and need to reroute the upper rad house. The current waterneck directly interferes with the mounting of the York.

I've seen (been a while) but I've seen straight up waternecks before. But besides the straight up one, the one that points to the drivers side is the only one that I've ever seen on a SB. Doesn't mean that another type might fit :dunno:

If I can get one that points to the drivers side and up at about 45 deg I could get that to work.

Do you know hte application for it so I could also get a upper rad hose?

It's prolly been 10 yrs since I've seen that straight up one. Why are you getting interference with the york belt and water hose?

I mounted my York directly above the power steering pump with a Van bracket I got form Sandawgk5 a while ago.
As it sits now the waterneck puts the hose right into the rear of the york.

wasnt sure if it could even be bolted on that way. just a suggestion. but i would assume that that would work better than running into the ac!

If it was me, i would just cut the waterneck at the flange and aim it where i want then reweld it back together. or take it to a weld shop if you dont have a welder.

sb and bb are the same... any local autoparts place should have straight up, straight forward, etc.... Summit has them all....

Can I use one with a o-ring instead of a gasket? or does it not matter?

Also how do I find the correct radiator hose? I tried dealing with the inept parts store counter jockeys but they could not understand that all I wanted to do was browse through the assortment they had hanging on the wall......I gave up.

Unless they're trying to prove they know more than you (which all the newbies do), most of the guys I've seen (and unfortunately I worked at a parts store for awhile) will let you browse if you just say you've got a project truck that stock parts won't do and you're just trying to get something to work.

You might check on a TPI camaro/firebird, they aren't angled as high as you want but on a standard carb/tbi manifold I think they'd point directly at the drivers side front tire.

I'd stay away from the swivels/oring versions myself. I ran one for awhile and it did nothing but leak between the joint.

Eh, I had one of those swivel ones on my 64 p/u. Never had a problem. I greased it up before install to make sure it didn't get pinched. But, it could be like buying a starter. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's going to work right...

Here's how mine comes out. Waterneck is straight, longer than the older SBC carbed ones I've seen:

(edit, believe mine is an '88 Camaro/Firebird TPI piece, that's what the setup originally was)
Bad pic for what you want, but you can see where the hose goes in under the MAF. No way to run a mech. fan with this setup.

Go with what iansane said. get the firebird/camero setup. It'll definitely fit. If you use some good ol' flex hose, you won't have any worries. I hate the stuff, but I ran it on an upper for over a year before I got around to replacing it.

It won't kink. Like other hose, it has a spring inside to keep it from kinking. They're corregated to allow for bending. My problem is that it doesn't look as nice as the preformed ones, but functionally they're fine.

Already did that. Nothing to be found that was not all corroded or already removed.

I would just keep going back but this is holding up getting hte truck back on the road.
