looking at a super clean 2wd 82 stepside..mabye a street rod project...my question is does anyone sell a kit or are the any recomendations for the right way to lower theese trucks...

i used to lower mini's but the leaves were under the axle and we used to either heat or cut the springs (hey i was 16 :o)

anyone got any pics of theese trucks lowered

You can get longer shackles for the rear

For the front you can just take the coils out and cut a coil off or two

i would like to do this the right way so im not cutting the coils...im thinking spindles

also how much does the shakle drop it??like aset of 7 inch shackles

also is that 2wd 5 lug pattern odd??is there anyway to convert the front to 6??

Nothing wrong with cutting coils, I know many people racing with cut coils, we run them also

I'm not sure how much you can get with cut coils on the trucks though, if your going to be dropping a lot I'd definately get spindles

Dropped spindles, coils up front. Axle flip and/or hangers and shackles in the rear. It all depends on how low you want to go. Any drop kit for a C10 will work.

Do a Google search for Sport Truck Direct. That's where I picked up my stuff.

(I guess I can't post hotlinks yet  )

I went with spindles and coils with a flip kit and shackles from Western Chassis on my dually. I'm happy with it.

i jsut want about 2 inches is all...i dont thing i really wanna get into a flip kit...also is the perch to perch measurement the same between 4wd and 2wd??

I'm not 100% sure on the perch to perch measurements.

For 2", I'd stick with a dropped coils and a set of shackles. Drop coils are fairly inexpensive, but personally, for 2", I'd cut a coil...but that's just me.

Spring perch width is the same in 2wd and 4wd, the 14 bolt in my k5 is out of a 2wd 3/4 ton burb, the only difference I have found is the shock mounts are a little lower on 2wd axles.

they have spindles or coils for the front and longer shackles for the rear...if you drop it too much you will have to C notch the frame

i am going through this now with a C-30 crewcab dually, trying to lower it down, but still keep it from being "slammed" and have a somewhat decent ride quality.

Lowering a truck though without air ride, you're still gonna have some issues with ride quality.

I am currently using a 2.5" dropped spindle, and from what i have been told, these actually mess with your steering/turning radius some, which i am kinda believing, even though a cc dually is a long bitch, it seems to have a wider turning radius than my old Freightliner did

I also originally cut the front coils down some, although i did it in too big of a step, and cut a coil and a half off...it sat LOW, (looked nice, but too low for me) and with still running the stock tires (1215/85/16) i had to remove the inner fender wells to keep the tires from rubbing,,,ALL THE TIME.:doah:

just finished up with the second set now, had another stock set i just cut 3/4 of a coil off, along with the 2.5" spindle and it sits just where i like it now, lowered, but not slammed.

As far as the rear goes, i am using the 2.5" shackles, they replace the rear shackles, and are just a bit longer, some underbed trimming may be needed, i haven't gotten around to it yet.

Also, i went and removed several of the rear leaf springs, (big rack) there was a spacer in my pack as well as the double overload (the one on top) i had to remove to get the rear down more.

it has a nice stance now, and still has some suspension movement for the bumps.

Personally, i didn't like the 2.5" spindle stance, yes it does lower it down, but it's almost not noticable.

If you like i will try to get you some pics of stuff in a bit.

if you dont mind spending some money. air ride tecnolages is on my friends 85. damn nice kit.

Where did you get the spindles from? I had a set on a 2wd k-5 but didn't know they were offered for 1-ton trucks. I'd like to see pics.

i dont want air cause im running a 408 with 500 +hp so i dont want air
What does that have to do with air-ride?

well ive heard some stories of bags poping with hard lanches..i dont know how true it is but its just not what im shooting for..this thing is ment to go fast straight im not so worried about slaming it i just want the look of it lowered a lil bit

i got mine from Craigslist locally, a guy had them on his dually for awhile, decided he didn't want it lowered or something.

and yeah, i was thinkin the same thing about the airride comment, was talking with a friend of a friend last night that sets up lowered air ride suspensions on all sorts of vehicles, he asked me what was the most comfortable ride i have ever been in, i said my Cadillac Fleetwood, he said air ride is 10 times softer than that. BUT when the suspension is setup correctly, it handles the horsepower as well.

hell, that what the bir rigs run, all air ride system. 500+hp/ 10million something ft/lbs torque.

someday i will be running air ride, this current setup on the dually is just a temporary thing though.

Pics will probably be up tomorrow, as it's getting too dark out now for them to show up decently.

If your going to drag race it, and launch hard enough to pop an air bag I would not be running the axle under the springs, let alone leaf springs
