I’m going to start installing new weatherstripping in the next couple weeks. I’m going to pick up this kit from 1aauto. I’ve read some other threads on the site and it seems they have generally favorable reviews.

What’s the best way to clean the old weatherstripping off and clean the surface before mating the new weatherstripping on?

What’s the best adhesive to use?

Looking for any other tips or tricks y’all have too

I have used a similar kit for my crew cab and my C10 from 1aauto. I had trouble with the kit for the C10 and ended up ordering a Precision brand set and it was MUCH better. I would recommend getting those instead. https://gmcpauls.com/73-91BlazerJimmy.htm

None of mine required adhesive and I didn't have to clean any off. The only place I screwed up on the C10 was the corner where the vent window meets the top of the door. I should have spent a little more time there making it fit better.

Good to know. Thanks for the link! I just priced it out from there, and because I'm not planning on doing the vent windows, it ends up being about the same price for the Precision brand. Well, before shipping it is. But if it really is that much better, I'm willing to pay a little extra. I had read that those were the best but they were so much more expensive on the other sites I'd seen.

I think the front doors/windows and some of the tailgate can be done without an adhesive. I'm looking to to do the cab seals and tailgate to body seal too though, which I'm pretty sure require adhesive.

Damn GMCPauls return policy is harsh though. Basically final sale.

There are probably other places you can get the seals. Just look for Precision brand. GMCPauls was just the one place I knew had them.

Alright so I got rolling on this tonight and the first one isn’t going great haha doing the rear window where it mates with the cap. The window refuses to go up all the way with the new weatherstripping in. I’ve jammed it in there as best I can, but it seems like once the window comes into contact with enough of it and builds up enough friction, the motor just can’t handle it. I’ve never had a problem before with it going up.

I did notice the factory weatherstripping is broken into 3 pieces. See pics. Is this consequential? Should I try cutting the new one I have into 3 strips with the same break points?

I also took a couple pics of the new weatherstripping. It almost looks like someone tried to install it and then returned it. I’m wondering if I got a dud.

I did order all precision stuff btw to try to avoid this haha

Mine did the exact same thing. Run the window up and push on it to slide it into the new seal. Run a heat gun around it, then just let it sit for a week with the window closed.

It should be one piece.

@ktmoutfront good to hear I’m not the only one. How did you get the bottom corner tabs in place if you pressed it onto the window with the window half up? I may be misunderstanding...

I am just talking about the one piece for the topper for the window. I did all of the pieces in stages. When all of them were in at one time, the window would not move.

Ah I misread what you said. I thought you said push the weatherstripping down onto the window. You said push the window up into the weatherstripping. I tried to do that tonight with no luck, but I’ll give it another go tomorrow.

Spray some silicon lube on the seals, also verify that the window channel in the tailgate is properly aligned with the top channel when the gate is closed. You can adjust the latches to pull it in more, which you might need to do if you replaced the seal on the outside of the gate.

If you're still having trouble getting the window all the way up with the new weatherstripping.........Remove the inside panel, on the tailgate.......and use a cordless drill on the cable to help get the window all the way up. Go up and down with the window to get some break-in on the new pieces. Just be careful you don't go too far because the torque from the drill could damage the cable, motor or glass. Once you're comfortable with the window in the up position......let it sit this way for some time as stated by ktmoutfront.

That looks like new weather stripping to me. If it was used, it would fit in the channels. The way it's staying flat on the bends you can tell it hasn't been truly installed.

For install, leave glue in channel and window up for a couple days.

Window rolling up slowly is another story, won't be related to this gasket. I bet you could take the gasket out and the window will still go slow.

It cruises up with the old weatherstripping. It gets stuck about 2 inches from the top with the new weatherstripping.

I didn’t get around to looking at it again tonight. It may need to wait a bit if I we’d to keep it closed after because I’ll need to drop the tailgate a few times in the next week.

I’ll try lubing up the weatherstripping to get it up there and a couple other tips y’all have given. Seems like I pretty much just need to get it to seat in the top however I can without breaking stuff, then leave it for at least a week to let everything get acquainted and maybe run a heat gum along it to help it

With weak electric motors and factory wiring, its normal to be slow right at the end. Probably screaming fast with no gasket.

I was able to get it up today with some silicon lube and an extra set of hands helping me push it up. One of us on the inside and one on the outside with some rubber grippy gloves so we could really press it up. I’ll let it sit for at least a week and see what happens. Hopefully it’ll close on its own after that. Thanks for the help y’all!

Turns out weatherstripping is a PITA, at least for me. Trying to do the front driver window. Got the old one out fine, new one fit fine except I can’t for the life of me get the front of it to shove down into the track on the vent window. I’ve seen multiple examples of people on YouTube doing it this way. I’ve tried silicon lube to help it.

I’m wondering if my window presses to hard into the front track? Is there a way to adjust this?

Any other ideas?

There's a bolt you can loosen to move the back track which would take some pressure off. You don't want to go too far and allow the window to jump track.
